First Look at Gerard Butler in Game

Gerard Butler!

Gerard Butler: ever since 300’s first trailer came out, he has been seen on dictionary entries for “awesome”. Butler will be next seen doing awesome shit in Game from Lionsgate studios. As the name suggests, the movie will be about a game, but judging by the first photo released (that you see above), it is going to be a far cry from Game Over and most other abysmal video-game-inspired movies.

In Game, we see a huge uber-violent multiplayer game called Slayers, that involves real death row inmates. Butler plays Kabel, one such inmate who must go through what must be one hell of an adventure of death, fury and destruction. Funny thing is, Kabel will be completely controlled by a nerdy teen, who, going by our experiences with Halo, will be screaming expletives while munching on potato chips and tacos.

No, seriously: Kabel will have to fight the creator of the maniacal game and overthrow the system, while at the same time being entirely controlled as a sim character. This is a very promising concept that should most likely go pretty well. The photo above seems to suggest that a bit of 300 style will be applied here as well, which can only be good. The plot also sounds pretty similar to Death Race, starring Jason Statham. Personally, I’d prefer this to Death Race.

The plot also sounds unusually similar to Unreal Tournament and its sequels. In UT, we see a futuristic gladiatorial tournament where humans, aliens, mutated humans and other such beings fight each other for fame, glory and fortune in a ultra-violent killing frenzy of a tournament relished by seemingly adolescent viewers across the globe. Interestingly, the background on some of the characters in UT2003 says that they were prisoners and were forcibly entered into the tournament.

Whatever the case, this is one movie to watch out for. It is scheduled for release this year, although we have practically no information about it, such as more photos, a trailer or anything like that…

Superhero movie overload?

Overload is a somewhat overused term. For most it just it used in relation to information overload but perhaps superhero overload is the newest use. Since the late 90’s CGI has been to such a high quality that we can have comic book superheroes translated to the big screen given a big enough budget.

Disaster Movie poster looks disastrous

Disaster Movie snippet

In what is the most accurate movie title in the franchise, Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg present the next in line to their already disaster line of movie spoofs: Disaster Movie. We have the poster right here, and while it has a mildly good take on The Day After Tomorrow, the movie will have to be much, much better to offset the… well, disappointment (yes, too weak a word) from Meet the Spartans and- who are we kidding? The entire goddamn franchise.

The cast features Kim Kardashian and Carmen Electra, for the booby goodness. Matt Lanter (the voice of Anakin from the upcoming Star Wars: Clone Wars TV series!) will be starring, with Nicole Parker and more people from the same bandwagon.

I, for one, am getting tired of this pricks. Its rime there are either really good Hollywood spoofs or none at all. It would probably be funny to see a “Spoof Movie” from someone other than Seltzer and Friedberg. Oh, and click the thumbnail below for the full-size poster, courtesy Cinematical.

Witchblade teaser poster, site now online

Witchblade Poster Preview

Among the lesser known comic book series lies Witchblade. Then again, flipping through a few random pages, most people would conclude it to be a trashy ’90s half-porno comic book. While that is true to some extent, Witchblade can atleast be considered as one of the better trashy ’90s half-porno comics.

And what’s better than a sexy live-action movie about it? Witchblade has already been in anime, manga and a cancelled TV series and of course, thousands of pieces of hentai artwork. Ahem. The series is about a mysterious gauntlet passed down from ages that turns a female into a superheroine while stripping her of all clothes to reveal her darn-sexy booty (a prerequisite for wearing the Witchblade).

Well, the teaser poster and site for the movie have just come out, and you’ll find them by hitting the jump!

Jurassic Park 4 update

jp3.jpg

There has been the first movement all year on Jurassic Park 4. The long running franchise has been less than speedy in turning out a fourth movie with comments from many actors here and there for the last two years plus. This time it’s nothing new but a confirmation of old news. Below is the newest comment from JP1 and JP3 actress Laura Dern about JP4.

Spielberg to remake Live-Action 3D Ghost in the Shell Remake

Ghost in the Shell screenshot

In my “Favourite Movies” list, I always dutifully add “Ghost in the Shell”, because it is that good a movie. It is also the prime example I give to the sort of people to judge animation movies incapable to telling serious, intelligent stories. Ghost in the Shell is a work of art, a cinematic masterpiece, no less.

And it’s going to be remade, by Spielberg’s very own Dreamworks. Hit the jump to find out what the hell.
