Good News and Bad News

For all you Street Fighter freaks out there – some good news and some bad news.

The good news: If you have heard rumors that Street Fighter IV has new characters – it’s true!

The bad news: If you want to play against the new characters Sagat and Balog (aka The Boxer) you must travel to Japan where they are being tested in select locations.

Even in the test version, you will not find the new nemeses in the select screen, the right conditions must occur in the single player mode for a fight with them to occur.

Justice League Movie On Again

DC Comic’s The Justice LeagueDC Comic’s The Justice League

On again, off again.

Hollywood works like that.

Because of the writers strike in Hollywood, Warner Bros. “shelved” their planned big budget, live action ‘Justice League’ movie back on January 16, 2008.

Movie was to be directed by George Miller (‘Happy Feet’) and starred Adam Brody as the Flash, rapper Common as the Green Lantern, and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman. Movie was to be based on the popular DC Comic characters.

But now that the strike is over, the WB has once again given the movie a green light and everyone is back at work including screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney, with production slated to start later this year.

Did You See Those Zombies in the Mall?

Dawn of the DeadDawn of the Dead

You know that old adage, “Seen one zombie, you’ve seen them all?”

No, well neither have I.  But MKR Group, a boutique investor relations firm specializing in the representation of small companies across a broad spectrum of industries filed a lawsuit against Japanese video gamer Capcom Entertainment Inc. on Monday, February 25, alleging Capcom infringed on the copyright of the 1978 film ‘Dawn of the Dead’ to which it owns rights.

You remember ‘Dawn of the Dead’ the 1978 and 2004 remake movies scripted by George A. Romero – well, MKR contends that Capcom’s “Dead Rising” stole the idea  of people trapped in a shopping mall full of zombies from Romero’s original script.

“Dead Rising” was released on Xbox 360 in August 2006 and sold more than a million units in its first five months of sale.

Both ‘Dawn of the Dead’ and “Dead Rising” provide “thoughtful social commentary on the ‘mall culture’ zeitgeist” as well as “a sizeable portion of sensationalistic violence”, wrote MKR in its court brief.

“Mall Culture Zeitgeist”??!!  Geez, since when have mall zombies become part of youth culture?

Chanel ChamandyChanel Chamandy

Now this is what I call entertainment.

Egypt’s majestic Pyramids of Giza and Great Sphinx provide a dramatic backdrop for the U.S. television debut of Canadian artist Chantal Chamandy. Accompanied by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and a troupe of 10 dancers, the Egyptian-born singer/songwriter returns to her native country to perform an eclectic mix of songs.

Visually enhanced by striking choreography, elegant staging and a dynamic light show, the concert special includes an emotional rendition of “Somewhere” from West Side Story, two traditional Arabic songs (“Salma ya Salama” and “Helwa ya Beladi”) and Chantal’s original compositions (“You Want Me,” “Peace”).

Filmed September 7, 2007, the performance features guest appearances by the Egyptian National Ballet Company, Tanoura dancers, a Darbouka drum band and an Egyptian marching band. (ever hear of Egyptian “belly dancers” – they’re hot!)

Do You Live in LA?

‘Last Stop for Paul’ invite for screening‘Last Stop for Paul’ invite for screening

In the Spring of 2005, writer, producer, director Neil Mandt and cinematographer Marc Carter set out on an around the world journey to film the story about two guys traveling to the famous Full Moon Party in Thailand. All they had was one camera, two wireless microphones, three batteries and a rough story outline. They traveled without a crew, a cast or having scouted any locations, all of this was to be done on the fly.

There weren’t any casting calls along the way, just strangers picked up on the street to either act in a scene or hold the camera as Neil and Marc delivered their improvised lines.

The outcome is a smart, funny and poignant story about world travel.

Goodbye Hollywood

80th Oscar Award Show

Ok, let me say before I start, I am not a right wing fanatic, nor I am left wing die-hard. I have my own thoughts on immigrants in America, especially after living in foreign countries a large portion of my life. Legal immigration is cool – it’s the heart of America.

But, (been waiting for that “but” huh??!!) after watching the Academy Awards show this evening, what’s with all the foreigners?
