The Hobbit Coming to Theaters In 2010

the_hobbit_dvd_cover.jpg

According to bussinessweek.com, MGM and New Line Cinema have agreed to make two prequels to the Lord of the Rings movies. The first of the two is set to be released around Christmas of 2010.

Apparently after a nasty settlement dispute, Peter Jackson has signed on to work on both films and was the one who decided to turn the story into two movies.

Who’s going to play who and whether or not the films will live up to the expectations held by most after the Lord of the Rings trilogy is something we will have to wait for.

Bruce Campbell’s “My Name is Bruce” trailer is GROOVY

I cannot believe that a movie as awesome this has passed under my nose. Bruce Campbell, the second greatest action hero of all time (the first being Chris Norris, of course) is back to his monster-bashing antics in My Name is Bruce, which shall make its way to the theatres some time in 2008.

This time, Bruce plays as himself, rather than the awesome Ash. The film’s groovy plot goes like this: A bunch of Oregon small town residents decide that in order to defeat an ancient Chinese God of war, they must enlist the ultimate monster-killer, Bruce Campbell. Unfortunately, Bruce is a filmstar, not a monster-killer and their plans have been abruptly dashed.

But fear not, for Bruce shall kick ass again in his favourite genre: a comedy/action/horror hybrid. The trailer below doesn’t look so bad, but a strange feeling nagging me in the back of my mind tells me that this isn’t worth getting all hyped up about and may just end up being bad.

Best of 2007 – February

Continuing with our Best of 2007 series, we take a look back at February. This month was the official start of the blog so from here on out we’ll have some fairly long lists of our top posts.

The Divine PR Exposition
The Divine is a PC game that a group of friends and I were working on. At 1am we launched a PR campaign with tons of screenshots, a trailer, wallpapers and random other stuff. That was an exciting and fun day. All day long we rushed to complete everything as the countdown clock ran on the website. To bad we missed our own deadline by an hour.

StuffWeLike.com Video Cast #10
This makes it onto the list because this video cast episode was the last time Spencer Beebe was a host. We’ll miss you Spencer!

Welcome to 7.0
StuffWeLike officially launches version 7.0 of the website. This version includes the blog, although back then it looked totally different!

Fantastic Four 2 – Better than the FF1?
At the time it seemed as if Fantastic Four 2 could really kick ass compared to the first one. With the death defying Silver Surfer the movie looked solid. To bad trailers lie.

The Pipeline Has Bad Music
When we first started The Pipeline we had it automatically load and blast some music. Apparently people don’t like coming onto a website where music automatically begins to play. Who da figure?

News in The Pipeline
The Pipeline was the reason why I jumped on and changed the focus on StuffWeLike in 3 days. It was a very drastic move, but I just feel in love with the capabilities of the player. One of the first things that I tried was posting text press releases in the player itself rather than the blog. I thought it was cool, but later I found out that no one cared. Yay for me.

Video Game Music Channel created
Still experimenting with the boundaries of The Pipeline, I created one of my favorite shows on it the Video Game Music Channel. Ever since I started StuffWeLike, I’ve always wanted to do a internet radio show. While I did have a brief experience in that realm with version 2 of the website, this was the first time that I had full control over every aspect. Thankfully no lawyers have come knocking at my door yet!

Dungeon Siege movie poster strikes!

Dungeon Siege poster preview

If you are a lucky inhabitant of this planet, you will have not heard of the movie named “In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale”, which is being directed by the much-hated Uwe Boll. And you are not incorrect if you’ve guessed that this game is based off of the phenomenally banal Dungeon Siege, by Microsoft – a game so utterly boring, I don’t even know why I own a copy.

Movies Online got their hands on the movie’s equally unoriginal poster. Check the poster out below. This is one movie I’m seriously hoping will suck!

Gerard Butler is Sabretooth in Wolverine? This is madness!

Gerard Butler in 300

Rumours are flying all around the internets lately, but one that I found particularly interesting is this one. CHUD reports that a source they very highly trust is confirming that Gerard Butler will act in the upcoming Wolverine as Sabretooth. For those not in the know, Sabretooth is Wolverine’s greatest arch-nemesis and can roar magnificently. I don’t know about you guys, but I personally think that Butler is great at roaring (especially if the roar has the word ‘Sparta’ in it).

Karl Urban was supposed to be Sabretooth in the movie earlier, but has reportedly dropped out. The frantic production crew set up a meeting with a conversation that must have gone like:

“Okay, we need a Sabretooth. Karl’s out.”

“Arnold Schwarzenneger!”

“Uh no, Sabretooth can speak right.”

(thinking, aided with burgers)

“Gerard Butler! He was in 300, we’ll get more people to watch it just for that! Plus, he’s masculine and a gay idol!”

“Hell yeah! Tonight, we dine in hell!”

(silence for a few seconds)

“What?”
