NYCC 2011 – “The Avengers” Exclusive Scene Description & News

Yesterday afternoon fans who were at New York Comic Con saw what was possibly the show’s most hyped-up panel, THE AVENGERS! Fresh off the heels of this past Tuesday’s iTunes trailer launch, those who were lucky enough to get into the con’s mega sized IGN theatre were treated to just a little bit more in the form of an exclusive clip (more on that in a moment).

The panel’s guests were Chris Evans (Captain America), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Clark Gregg (S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson), Cobie Smulders (S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill) & Kevin Feige (Avengers producer & Marvel Studios head). I kind of figured that fellow avid New Yorker ScarJo would have made an appearance but she was a no show.

Onto the footage!!! SPOILERS, DO NOT GO FARTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO HEAR WHAT IS IN STORE!!!!!!!

We start off in India, where Dr. Bruce Banner has been hiding out living “Hulk free” for the last two years and he is trying to help cure the locals of a sickness. Banner is helping the family he’s staying with when suddenly a young girl rushes in begging him to help her sick family. She flashes some cash and we cut to her and Banner approaching her (very Slumdog looking) home. As soon as she enters the home she slips through a window. Banner’s been set-up! But… in comes The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Banner asks if she’s there from S.H.I.E.L.D., which she is. She also mentions that she was that girl’s age when she was recruited to become a spy.

She says she’s not there to kill him and is there for Banner and not The Hulk. Nick Fury needs the world’s ace expert on gamma radiation to help them trace a gamma signal they’ve picked up and she shows him an image of the Tesseract (AKA the Cosmic Cube to us cool kids) on her phone. Banner gets angry and the Widow draws a gun on him. He cools off, and she calls off the squad of heavily armed agents surrounding the place.

Awesome stuff! Following this scene we were treated to a sizzle reel featuring a whole bunch of cool shots including some banter between Loki and Tony Stark (“I have an Army” “Well I have a Hulk”). Also, a few notes that fans will appreciate:

– Iron Man 3 will kick off “phase two” films which will potentially build to Avengers 2.
– Guardians of the Galaxy will start off as a team movie, they will not be any introducing the characters in solo films.
– The Avengers will also have a post-credits film.
