If there has ever been a stigma against American made cars, it’s that they aren’t fuel efficient. It looks like Ford is aiming to reshape that image with its new 2010 Fusion Hybrid.

It is now officially America’s most fuel efficient mid-size car with a certified 41 mpg rating in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. It topped the Toyota Camry hybrid by 8 mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway. It also beat the even smaller Honda Civic Hybrid by 1 mpg. While that may appear to be a small amount, it adds up in the long run.

Ford’s Fusion Hybrid can travel up to 47 miles per hour on electric power alone.

Cast your eyes on the car above folks, because we might all be driving one like it in the future. It’s called the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell and has been given the Green Car Journal’s Green Car Award for a vehicle that successfully “envisions the road ahead,” for its fuel cell propulsion system.

It is perhaps the most eco-friendly car around as the vehicle’s only emission is water vapour, and you can get your hands on it.
