ReBoot The Movie

ReBoot

Finally the first CGI TV show ever ReBoot is getting the respect that it deserves! Rainmaker Animation who bought the original creators MainFrame Entertainment in 2006, are going to be making a trilogy of feature-length films based on the ReBoot series.

Aired in 1994, ReBoot is about life from within the computer. Everything from RAM to harddrives are represented as characters. What made this series so great was the shear amount of comedy in it. While being a children’s program shown on ABC, YTV, and later Cartoon Network, ReBoot had parodies throughout its lifetime including the X-Files and Evil Dead. The series followed three characters, Bob, Dot, and Enzo the defenders of the central computer. Most episodes consisted of them playing against the user in computer games or fighting the virus Megabyte or Hexadecimal.

“The idea is to relaunch the brand in a new way,” said Rainmaker Animation executive vice president Paul Gertz, who will oversee the project.

The story for these films will be decided upon by fans starting July 26, the opening date for Comic-Con 07! Rainmaker has partnered up with Zeros 2 Heroes, a new social networking site for comic book fans, to reveal five different story possibilities. It will be up to fans to choose what pitch they want to see turned into the ReBoot films. A internet based comic will be published this year also based upon the selected pitched idea.

We bet that a lot of you have never seen this series so we’ve gathered a bunch of video clips for your enjoyment!

50 Cent sues ad company for “promoting violence” in his name

50 Cent with the Press

It appears to lawsuit week. 50 Cent, the annoying guy infamous for songs like “In da Club”, “Candy Shop” and “Disco Inferno” has reportedly sued the internet advertisement company Traffix Inc. The allegations include “promoting violence”, threatening his safety and that the advertisement just “quite literally calls for violence against” him. The lawsuit will bring in $1 Million in damages. C’mon, Curtis. Weren’t you filthy rich already?

The advertisement in question involved a cartoon head of 50 Cent, which was used without his permission. The user is tasked with shooting the head, which is done using the mouse. If successful, the user will “WIN $5,000 or 5 RINGTONES GUARANTEED”. All that is according to the lawsuit, mind you. Still, I’d love to see and play the advertisement. Must be an excellent stress-buster.

Traffix’s lawyer Ezio Scaldaferri refused to comment and claimed that he had not even seen the lawsuit. And on the other hand, 50 Cent’s top-notch lawyers are raving about “completely unauthorized” use of 50 Cent’s image and it being used in a “vile, tasteless and despicable” method.

The inspiration for the ad could have possibly come from the 2000 event, where 50 Cent was shot nine time with a pistol near his grandma’s house.

YouTube Behind The Times

YouTube.com has released a new player that mixes YouTube videos together. This “custom player” allows you to customize the name of the player, color theme, and video display layout. The videos come straight from a YouTube user’s playlist, favorites list, or the user’s own uploaded videos.

Here’s our YouTube example:

Now first with the good: the way that the video thumbnails are displayed is fantastic! Glossy, iTunes-ness gorgeous!

Now for the this is crappy portion: no Full Screen view, background colors only? – why not pictures for more in-depth branded players, and there is no way to categorize the videos – they all get lumped together into one player.I’m being serious here in saying that YouTube sucks. It’s an old fashioned system that needs some major updates to catch up with newer video sites that have higher quality video, no site branding, and are skinless.

That’s why I submit to you the future of StuffWeLike.com’s player The Pipeline! Get ready for the future of the multimedia experience. This new version (seen below) is planned to release in roughly 3 weeks.

The Pipeline v2.0

Major props to SplashCast for creating a great technology that allows users to create their own shows while still being able to syndicate other users shows **cough cough search for The Pipeline** all in one player.

Testing, Test test 1, 2, 1, 2

If you’re a die-hard StuffWeLike.com fan, and we know that you all are, you may have first noticed that we’ve released a new design for the website. Secondly you may have noticed that the speed on the blog has been a little slow for some unknown reason. We’re trying a few things out and have enabled a fast php program, which hopefully will speed up the load times on the blog and throughout the site.

Please let us know if you notice any improvements or even sever downtimes. Remember to be vigilant.

What would you do with a 40 gigabits/sec fiber-optic connection?

Internet

While many internet users are stuck with connection speeds that are well under 1 gigabit, a 75 year-old Swedish woman named Sigbritt Lothberg is able to get 40 gigabits per second! To bad she only uses the internet for reading web-based newspapers.

At her connection rate she’d be able to download full-length movies in literally two seconds! Hafsteinn Jonsson and Lothberg’s son are the ones that built this fastest residential uplink in the world. They were able to connect two routers 1,240 miles apart without any transponders.

Please come to my house and give me that connection, please!
