Justin Brogan Comes Back
The first podcast co-host Justin Brogan rejoins StuffWeLike as a blogge. One of the reasons why he left StuffWeLike was because his microphone broke. This was also a reason why the audio podcast ended. No, I’m not pointing the blame finger…

Shiwan Khan Comes Back
No this isn’t The Next-Generation of Heroes Season 3, but it’s just as good. Jon April who played Shiwan Khan in NGH comes back to the site that made him a star and this time he’s a blogger.

Hitman Movie In Production
If you ever thought Hitman was going to be a good movie, you’re just dumb. The movie was rushed in everyway! The movie was officially announced to be in production and then 6 months later it was released. What kind of quality do you think this film would have?

eSportsTV.com Joins The Pipeline
What at the time seemed like a match made in Heaven, eSportsTV joined The Pipeline in sharing some of their coverage of video game tournaments. Then after the initial launch, they never sent any new footage over nor returned my emails. So a couple of months later we ditched them.

E3 Returns to LA Convention Center

E3

After this year’s miserable E3 fiasco, I’m so grateful to hear that E3 is returning to the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 15-18th, 2008. If E3 stayed in Santa Monica it would have surely died a horrible death. Even if booths will remain less about flashy showings and more about industry reflection, isn’t that a good thing? Being able to see and discuss video games with fellow developers will only help the industry.

The event is still closed to the public, but that’s why we have the new E For All Expo. If you’re still angry about E3 being closed off to the public first remember that it always was a private industry event and secondly read this post for more information why E3 cracked down.

Being a Games Journalist is …

At times it can be crazy but at others it can make you joyous. To be able to play games that no one else has is an amazing privilege. This year’s E3 was one that didn’t live up to anyone’s hopes, but it was more about the games than ever before! Here’s a slideshow of the event, you’ll notice that my pictures are the ones taken with a crappy cell phone camera.

Wii Fit Skateboard, Snowboard, Surfboard

Arguably the most exciting revelation at Nintendo’s E3 Media Briefing this year was the Wii Fit. A new peripheral that is able to sense where a person is stepping. Nintendo showed off the possibilities of doing exercises and fun mini-games by using this “stepping platform”.What Nintendo now presents is yet another merge between the arcade and the home console. Imagine using the Wii Fit, not as a excercise platform but as a skateboard, snowboard, or surfboard! Turn the Wii Fit sideways and you’ve got a two-in-one peripheral. Sure you probably won’t be able to do crazy tricks with the board, but for people who can’t find their balance in the real sports Wii Fit is going to be a fun alternative.

For all of the above sports, you’d steer with both feet on the platform. Since Wii Fit is tilt sensitive the peripheral can be as accurate as the real sports. Skateboarding would be a little more tricky, if you want to consider having one foot step down to have your avatar push the skateboard faster difficult.

The real brain teaser is why didn’t Nintendo market the Wii Fit at E3 with more of these amazing game possibilities? As Reggie talked about during the presentation Nintendo is going for the general gaming audience and then the hardcore users. It’s plausible that Nintendo realizes that this peripheral is probably not going to be used by the average male gamer at least as a fitness machine. Lets face it, this is what the game industry considers as a serious game. Have serious games sold well thus far? If you have no idea what a serious game is, that just proves my point. By marketing this peripheral as a fitness machine, it’s the female audience who will most likely be the first to purchase it. If specifically mothers were to buy this peripheral for their family Wii console, Nintendo gains access to the whole family. It’s at that point when Nintendo will unveil more casual games like they have already done with their Wii Sports and Wii Play series.

These short gameplay session games are becoming a key to Nintendo’s success and with the Wii Fit a whole new door of gameplay has been opened.

E3 07 Predictions

E3

E3 is only days away and I’m here to tell you what’s going to happen with the BIG 3 Consoles.

We already know what games each system will have for its Holiday launch lineup: Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Lair. For all 3 consoles E3 will focus on the lineup for 2008 and beyond.

With the Wii there’s already Mario, Zelda, and Metroid – so what’s next? We’re not going to be seeing sequels to any of these titles, it will be all about the spin-offs. Mario Kart is a must. Since both the Wii and Mario Kart scream,”Party time!” it’s a no-brainer. We could also see Nintendo going to their secondary stars Donkey Kong and Starfox, although a big show stealer could be a new Pilot Wings or Wave Race game. Nintendo could also show off some indie games for its upcoming WiiWare channel. Nintendo themselves could be developing games for this downloading service. Potentially sequels to their low profile games like Luigi’s Mansion and Pikmin. Hopefully they’ll solve the storage issue that the Wii faces in light of this and the Virtual Console services.

Halo 3

On the Xbox 360 front, I predict Microsoft will be stealing the show. Halo 3 is Halo 3. Future titles such as Alan Wake will expand games into the territory of compelling storytelling with satisfying action-adventure gameplay. Not only that, but titles such as Atari’s Alone In The Dark 4 will show that the 360 doesn’t have to rely on shooter games to survive. Microsoft will tout its Xbox Live system and it’s casual games service, as Microsoft aims to broaden the appeal of the Xbox 360 to all types of gamers.

Lair

A lot will be going on in the Sony camp as they try and reposition themselves in the gaming market. They have to show off a new slim PSP model that will compete with Nintendo’s DS Lite. Other than that they need to prove that KillZone 2 looks just as good as the 2005 E3 trailer did. Remember the “Is it pre-rendered or in-game?” fiasco? Well, now is the time for Sony to prove that those were in-game graphics. For Sony it won’t be about showing we have X sequels – well, maybe I’m wishing too much, maybe that’s for E3 08. I hope that Sony realizes that it needs original and exclusive titles in order to compete with Xbox 360 and Wii. I won’t predict anything else for the Playstation because I expect them to talk about many things that have never been seen before.

In the end E3 07 will be about showing off why gamers need to own all 3 consoles. Each manufacturer will sell itself out to prove how their console is different if they want to keep up with the competition for seasons to come.

E3: Game Over

E3

If I were to say there were only 400 exhibitors at least years E3 – how many do you think are going to be there this year? After the decision to downgrade E3 and bring it back to its roots, the newly named E3 Media & Business Summit will only have 32 exhibitors this year!

That’s not necessarily a bad thing though considering who the exhibitors are: 1C Company, Activision, Akella, Atari, Atlus, Buena Vista Games (now Disney Interactive Studios), Capcom, Codemasters, Crave Entertainment, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Konami, LucasArts, Majesco, Microsoft, Midway, Namco Bandai Games, NCsoft, Nintendo, Sega, Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Online Entertainment, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive, THQ, Ubisoft, Vivendi Games, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Sadly StuffWeLike.com has yet to be invited to the event so I can’t say: stay tuned for more information when we cover the event. Worst part of all StuffWeLike.com is literally located right next to Santa Monica, California – where E3 will be held this year. 🙁
