Moto Q: Crap never looked so good

motorola-q-500×350.jpg

So as anyone knows getting a new phone can bring some excitement. Well for me it gave me a reason to have that in your face, boasting, gloatiful attitude well for a while at least. For any technological geek like myself the Moto Q was the perfect answer. Big, bulky, and a full qwerty keyboard well I was in heaven, right up until I turned it on and realized that Moto Q’s Windows Mobile Os had the look of a pc, and also the crashing rate of one.

It seems that this phone while it looks nice was really a piece of crap, even my LG phone which was certifiable crap was less crapier then this phone. Let’s say in a situation where I needed to make an important phone call or text message I would be better off with two paper cups with a string and a telegraph machine. After a couple months of use I realized this phone was a huge pain in the a**, however I did like the attention I’d get from just simply pulling it out, trust me the reactions were great.

Other then the constant freezing issues easy to use features, storing numbers, calling people houses or cells or texting, well simple features really aren’t even so simple. It’s to complicated for it’s own good almost like the complex watch where you go, “Yea but can it tell time?”

Overall this phone needs to improve, and it will through time and through better understanding of what needs to be done, primarily the freezing and some features. The look is great…yea I love it even though my fat fingers hit all sorts of small buttons all the time almost but it really is a cool looking phone.

It’s cool yea…but give it time it’ll be less crappy.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3: Review

Pirates

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is the latest installment in the famed pirate series that we all know and love. In this installment, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley), and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) must scour the Earth for the end of the world and the entrance to the “weird and haunted shores” of Davy Jones’ Locker in order to rescue the famed pirate, Jack *cough* Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from the depths of the underworld. All the while, the East India Trading Company, with the tragic Davy Jones at their disposal, is bringing about an end to piracy on a massive scale and attempting to unlock the mystery of the mystical pirate fetishes, the Nine Pieces of Eight. Davy Jones himself faces drama as he is forced into submission by the East India Trading Company and he comes face to face with the woman he literally cut his heart out for, Calyspo, the goddess of the seas. After numerous story twists, subplots, and backstabbings, the nine pirate nations of the world unite together in one final, dramatic struggle for survival.

I have been very impressed with the past installments in this series, in fact I rate them as some of the best movies I have seen. This movie, though maybe not as good as the last, is no exception. There’s plenty of drama, action, plot, and humor to go around and it is all done very well. Laughs were heard throughout the theater along with “Whoa”s and gasps. Every clash of the sword and explosion of the cannon just made you want to be a pirate. The depth of the story is actually quite astounding as well. But what really sets this movie apart from the rest is the strong sense of ambiance. Every scene has been meticulously designed to create the most dramatic emotional affect and intense sense of beauty. The rain swept decks of the Flying Dutchman, the dripping candles of the pirate meeting place on Shipwreck Island, and the exotic shores of Singapore are all beautifully done. Any still from this movie could be framed and put in a museum. The movie is 168 minutes long (almost 3 hours), but it will seem like mere moments.

On the downside, this isn’t the best installment in the series. The most notable flaw is the convoluted plot. Though still comprehendable, it was so confusing that many viewers thought they were watching Lost. One guy betrays that guy, that guy betrays the other guy, they all compromise and decide to betray some other guy who is planning for them all to betray him, which is all part of the plan of the first guy which goes horribly wrong when the other guy gets stabbed through the heart. It’s kind of like that except with magic! There are also many things that are not satisfactorily explained, like the magic coins and the Davy Jones love plot, among other things. The movie also relies too heavily upon the other two movies for comic material. For instance, the undead monkey is in almost every scene and turtles are continuously referenced for some reason and it really makes for some lame jokes, though these are certainly made up for. Another thing that I personally did not like is that I felt that some of the nuances kind of ruined some of the things that were cool in the last movie. The portrayal of Tia Dalma as a tragic character, for instance, really ruined what we loved about her in Dead Man’s Chest.

Despite these downsides, Pirates is definitely worth watching. If you’re not a pirates fan, go ahead and wait for it to come out on video. Otherwise, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. ARRRRRR!!!!!

+ Awesome ambiance
+ Well preformed action sequences
+ Hilarious
+ Good drama

– Too many references to past movies
– Convoluted plot
– Plot holes

➡ What’s really strange is that Johnny is never seen in this constume in the movie. 😯 Is it a reference to the next movie?
Johnny Depp

Ash Gets Groovy in the Marvel Universe

mzvsaod1reprint.jpg

Hey everybody. It’s me, Todd. I am writing what will hopefully be the first of many articles on this Mecca of a website. Something occurred to me recently: Geeks and Nerds like comics. Why isn’t there comic coverage on the site? Is it because David doesn’t like Superman, Batman or The Legend of Zelda? No. It is merely that I have not yet been born. But I have.

So, what’s a good read these days? Well, a recent personal favorite of mine has been the combination of three of the sweetest things on Earth: Bruce Campbell, Marvel Superheroes and Zombies. “Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness” pits Ash and his trusty chainsaw against classic heroes like Spider-Man and Wolverine. Of course the heroes are in zombie form, and hungry for flesh, so there’s no reason to get upset over them being killed. That was a crappy sentence. I wish I could word it better but who has time? Anyways, Ash goes around trying to save the world from the diseased heroes with the help of non infected super vixens, Dazzler and Scarlet Witch. The first 3 issues have been a good read, with such shocking events as, Donald Duck being blown away by a shotgun and Ash walking down a sidewalk. So if you get the chance pick one up today. It may be the single best comic ever created. By humans.

And remember:
Always cut away from yourself.

Everybody Loves Raymond

Everybody Loves Raymond

I’ve never watched the TV show Everybody Loves Raymond and liked it all that much. Maybe it was due to my age and my inability to connect to the characters. I watched three episodes back to back today on TBS or some similar station and I was laughing at practically every joke. Maybe it was because I was eating Cherry ice cream… or maybe it was because I can now appreciate what old people see in that show. I guess that means that I am now old too. 🙁

Hey at least it beats Saved By the Bell! I can’t stand watching that show at 8am… even though I still do… I never really liked Saved By the Bell and now that I’m out of high school, I have even more reason to hate it. The stories aren’t at all based on real life events in high school. When did you ever steal your principle’s car? Each episode is so out of the ordinary and I find it hard to connect to these characters. Oh God please save me from Saved By the Bell College Years…

Saved By the Bell

Microsoft Takes On Everyone and Anyone With Silverlight

Silverlight

Wow is all that I can say after watching the video explaining how Silverlight works. Basically it’s a video editing piece of software for the web, but it has redesigned the way that video editing used to work.

If you want to learn more about Silverlight check it the examples on its website. Then check out the video demo. Ultimately download the beta version that was just released today!

Sadly the program doesn’t work on Windows 2000 so I have to use XP to try out the beta. 🙁

Ok I know I should stop using Windows 2000. For all you Mac fans the software is out of the box compatible with OSX.
