Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows Review…Seriously

Cobwebs of Darkness
Cobwebs of Darkness

So this game came out about 3 months ago but due to wonerful things like school we shall review it now.

Many Spidey games have been since the first Spider-Man film all those years ago and some have been good and some have been bad. “Web Of Shadows” falls somewhere in the middle. The game seems like it was conceived right after Spider-Man 3 came out in theatres and took a little too long to develop and release in time with the movie. Shrek The Halls – DVD review

Shrek being an ogre… knows nothing about Christmas. Welcome to “Shrek the Halls”, a short half hour X-mas special about learning the ways of the holidays. Shrek takes quick lessons about Christmas to try and give his family the holiday they deserve. Donkey and Puss in Boots show up to add to the fun and screw things up a bit. Its exactly what you’d expect when you think of Shrek + holidays.

This is the same holiday special that ran on TV a year ago, it runs a little over 23 minutes, but this time no commercials! The original cast from the films is back to reprise their character roles which is nice, since typically this sort of thing would feature a bunch of horrible sound-a-likes. The animation is pretty solid quality as well, almost on par with the films themselves.

Surprisingly, the DVD has a variety of features considering it is just a TV holiday special. There are several sing a longs, a couple interactive games, and a video jukebox. The DVD also features widescreen and fullscreen formats which is nice and 5.1 surround.

It’s worth a watch to get into the holiday spirit. However, being a holiday movie it’s really only good for about 2 months out of the year. Overall worth picking up for the Shrek fans in your family or just renting to have some Christmas cheer to pass the time.

Pipe Mania DS – Review

Pipin Hot!
Pipin Hot!

I first encountered interest in pipe related games about 13 years ago playing Pipe Dream on my parent’s computer. At the time however, I was more interested in playing Chip’s Challenge, but the memory of Pipe gameplay had been stored into my memories. Jump forward to high school where the only thing to keep me from jumping through a window in boredom was another pipe game on my cell phone. It was fun and passed the time but it had no pizzaz.

Finally, Empire Interactive has made the best of the best when it comes to laying pipes. Pipe Mania for the DS is the most fun I’ve ever had trying prevent slime from leaking onto the floor. Empire went all out (as far out as you can go for a pipe game at least), to make a challenging, yet entertaining (it has a story mode believe it or not) game of plumbing. The game breaks free of strictly connecting pipes,  and challenges you to connect factory assembly lines, internet cords, electricity cabling, and train tracks. While they all follow the same basic rules of laying and connecting pieces, each category has special requirements needed to fully connect start piece to end piece. The factory requires splitting assemblies into multiple lines, the electricity can be temporarily stored in special glass pieces etc. If this isn’t your thing, the game comes with a Classic Mode where you can lay pipe till your head explodes with frustration. I say this as a good thing however because the other pipe games I’ve played have been incredibly easy to beat. Pipe Mania starts off easy enough, but once you beat the first few levels, it really challenges you; not to the point of throwing your DS across the room (I’m lookin at you SMB 3!) but enough that you sometimes have to play one level a few times to really plan out what you need to do to get things done.

That being said, I also want to add that the DS is probably the best kind of platform for this kind of game. No more messing up pipelines by pushing the wrong button or having a crappy mouse that clicks the wrong place. With the touchscreen you just touch right where the piece goes and you’re good to move on. This is a good play before bed type games, or just to play to pass the time. Its worth the buy if you’re into games like these, and has tons of replay value and a surpising number of levels and mini games.

Review: Mr. Lifeless

arg

Hello all. I am going to review this site’s own short film series… “Mr. Lifeless”. My first problem is the title. The first episode begins with the title character running away from the police. We do not know why. What we do know is this: Having no life is not against the law… so this man has had to have committed a crime or been framed for something. Does this hurt the series? Not really. Well personally for me I can never watch it again because I am so outraged, but for normal people… I don’t think anyone will care. Anywhos…

The film is quick and intense. It is very fast paced, lots of running, quick cuts and some intense stunts involving a car that put Death Proof to shame. It will fill your life with a fun 30+ seconds. Well… a boring 20 minutes (the frickin load time for the dumb pipeline) and then a fun 30 + seconds. To summarize… Mr. Lifeless…. hardly… Mr. Lifemore… Yes.

Ash Gets Groovy in the Marvel Universe

mzvsaod1reprint.jpg

Hey everybody. It’s me, Todd. I am writing what will hopefully be the first of many articles on this Mecca of a website. Something occurred to me recently: Geeks and Nerds like comics. Why isn’t there comic coverage on the site? Is it because David doesn’t like Superman, Batman or The Legend of Zelda? No. It is merely that I have not yet been born. But I have.

So, what’s a good read these days? Well, a recent personal favorite of mine has been the combination of three of the sweetest things on Earth: Bruce Campbell, Marvel Superheroes and Zombies. “Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness” pits Ash and his trusty chainsaw against classic heroes like Spider-Man and Wolverine. Of course the heroes are in zombie form, and hungry for flesh, so there’s no reason to get upset over them being killed. That was a crappy sentence. I wish I could word it better but who has time? Anyways, Ash goes around trying to save the world from the diseased heroes with the help of non infected super vixens, Dazzler and Scarlet Witch. The first 3 issues have been a good read, with such shocking events as, Donald Duck being blown away by a shotgun and Ash walking down a sidewalk. So if you get the chance pick one up today. It may be the single best comic ever created. By humans.

And remember:
Always cut away from yourself.
