May the odds be ever in your favor. We take a look at the new trailer for The Hunger Games.
For those of you who haven’t read the series, The Hunger Games is a trilogy of books all surrounding surviving in a gladiator game, turned political warfare. You follow Katniss, a girl from the poorest district to participate in the games in place of her sister.
The book itself was aimed at a teen audience at it’s launch but has swept the nation quickly being picked up in adult book clubs, and putting Suzanne Collins(the author) on track to reach an above average level.
Having read all three books, I can tell you it is one heck of a ride. Similar in form to another book turned movie Battle Royale, it’s a very gruesome read as you hear about how one teenage butchered another in a disgusting fashion. So when I heard that they were going to make a movie I was skeptical. Much like Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, which was rated PG they toned down a lot of the violence that’s in the book. Yes the film is still extremely dark but it just didn’t have an impact on me as much as reading the gory details.
Thus the reason I’m concerned for this film. There are some pretty vivid details that come to mind when I think back to The Hunger Games, specifically someone getting speared with a trident, and so on and so forth. That is just one of the many deaths portrayed mind you. However also shown by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2, they can really take a PG-13 film and bring it to it’s limits.
The reason that I’m comparing the two so often is because I feel The Hunger Games is probably the closest franchise to what Harry Potter was. But anyway I digress, check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!
While it doesn’t give you a whole lot to go on it is a teaser trailer and it does tease the amount of epic that will be happening in the film. Watching Katniss draw her bow is exciting and the music seems to slowly drag you in.
The Hunger Games will be coming to theaters everywhere March 23rd, 2012!
