Cloverfield, another look into madness

Okay, Garbled Zombie posted two articles about this movie a few weeks ago but much of the article is littered with information that has since been proven false. EthanHaasWasRight is not related to Cloverfield, this has been confirmed by producer J.J. Abrams, in fact it seems to viral marketing for a game called Alpha-Omega. So, while EHWR is not for Cloverfield there are viral Marketing sites out there. One of those all-but-confirmed sites is Slusho, but there is evidence backing up this claim. A scene in the trailer shows a character wearing a shirt with the slusho logo and name on it.

Now, not only is that in the movie, but the company has been tied directly to past Abrams works. The name Slusho was in an episode of Alias, which was produced by Abrams himself, as an Icee type company. The site itself has been stated as a marketing site for Cloverfield by an inside source according to NBC, but not by Paramount of Abrams. The site is strange to say the least. The product’s history is riddled with more than it’s share of Engrish translations and shows a very mysterious past about the company’s creator and his family. The likelihood of the site being fake is slim, but still possible.

Now since the last few posts another picture has come up. It doesn’t provide much, if any, information, but it’s definitely after the “attack” by the parasite. The smoke could be anything, an expulsion of gas from the parasite or just smoke from the falling debris of the surrounding buildings. Something that has been pointed out in the the last picture though, a girl in the lower right hand corner of the party has a photoshopped number on her, the number 9. The significance of this has yet to be seen.

Universal to handle new Dracula movie

 

An older, more sophisticated Dracula.

I wonder what Bram Stoker would have to say about all the ridiculous Dracula interpretations in this day and age. Or heck, I wonder what Count Vlad himself might have said. I enter this philosophical soliloquy in lamentation of an act of torture committed by Universal Pictures. They are making a new Dracula movie. And I predict its going to be terrible.

Titled “Dracula Year Zero”, this new flick will be directed by Alex Proyas and produced by Micheal de Luca. The story, written by Mark Sazama and Burk Sharpless, will be revolving around Count Vlad “Dracula” himself, rather than a Victorian-era Dracula. Count Vlad, if you don’t know, was a Romanian Warlord who scared the living daylights out of the invading Turks. He was the prime inspiration for Bram Stoker to make Dracula.

The movie can be then, an excellent sword-slashing, curse-babbling period action flick with some supernatural influence here and there. Proyas said that the project “manages to play off the horror and the sympathy you have for a character that sells his soul to the Devil to save his kingdom and family.”

Dracula will be at the height of his powers and bashing Turks open in the movie. I wonder if Sazama and Sharpless decided to cross 300 with Dracula and see what happens. Heh.

“One of the cool things about this is that we’re doing it at Universal,” Sharpless said. “This is the home of monster movies.”

I can’t figure out here whether he means ‘monster’ as in terrible creatures or terrible, impossible-to-watch movies. Awesome or not, this is one movie I’d like to keep my eyes on.

Dark Knight, Anthony Michael Hall’s character revealed? (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

An interesting little tidbit from Batman-On-Film Chicago filming spy:

“Anthony Michael Hall is not someone created for the film (like ‘Rachel Dawes’). His character is from the comic books and is rather well known. I know you don’t do spoilers, so let’s just say he seems to be good, but is really bad, or it could be the other way around — it’s quite the ‘mystery.’ The fans will definately [sic] get a kick out of his appearance in the film!”

Sounds like Vernon Field, a character from “The Long Halloween” series of Batman comics. Here’s a short description of the character from Wikipedia.

“Vernon appears to be meek, unassuming and harmless-looking. In reality, however, he is cunning and extremely corrupt, a tool of Gotham City’s gangsters.”

In “The Long Halloween”, Field was indirectly responsible for the creation of Two-Face, supplying an associate with a disguised bottle of acid, which is sprayed in Harvey Dent’s face during a court testimony, mutilating Dent and triggering his downward spiral into a psychotic killer. Say, “Hello,” to Internet Sherlock!

More digging on Cloverfield throws up new photo, half-baked forum

I’m a sucker for viral marketing campaigns. I spent a whole night chasing one particular campaign several months ago (the end result of which frustrated me). Well, “Cloverfield” is one interesting campaign and it has absorbed me. Again.

Following a link from a commenter, I found a related site (which was up for quite some time, as a bit of research pointed out). The site can be found here. To summarize, it just says “The Parasite” with a couple of links below and a “sponsor” link below that (I’ll get to it real soon). There is also a countdown which will end at August 1st (which, if you remember, is the date ‘Van’ mentioned). Now, the second link leads to the “Ethan Haas was right” place.

The second site released around the same time Ethan Haas did, but I missed it, apparently. The site showed a photo of a two women looking in shock at something. Now, nightowl3090 has posted a series of analytical breakdowns about Cloverfield. He suggests that the two womens’ images, if merged can form a perfect woman – with a bit of a problem at the teeth. He also talks about a possible “organic” thing in the background.

The second image, which I’m guessing was recently posted shows a bit of the party seen in the Cloverfield trailer. Looks pretty much like an average party pic, with the words “We’ll Miss” in the background. What I find creepy about that image is that guy (gal?) at the far right.

Favreau talks “Iron Man”, I get excited

Director John Favreau (via his Myspace) apologizes to us fans for not having an Iron Man teaser trailer nestled in before Transformers, but he promises to “reveal something very cool very soon”. With Iron Man sharing an hour block with Marvel and their other upcoming film, Hulk, later this month at San Diego ComicCon, it seems something very cool will be revealed very soon, indeed.

“We’ve secured a prime slot Saturday afternoon [July 28] in the big room at SDCC. We will split an hour with Marvel and Hulk and plan to cut something together to reward the fans for their interest, support and patience. In addition to our Saturday afternoon presentation, we will be doing a signing and poster giveaway at the Marvel booth on Saturday. Paramount is also doing a rundown of its slate on Thursday which I will do my best to attend as well.”

“Cut together”? Hmm, I’m no Hollywood film linguist, but it sounds like he’s talking about revealing the first Iron Man trailer! If that is the case, well, I just feel like a little school girl again!

Favreau drops a few more little nuggets, stating that they “are essentially using the books to inspire our story”. He also reiterates that this movie is being told as Iron Man’s origin story, and that while it stands on its own as a movie, it definitely leaves more to be told. I smell box office sequel revenue!

Finally he takes a moment to respond to some rumors suggesting Samuel L. Jackson, Hillary Swank, and Favreau himself all play roles in the film. I had previously told you of hushed reports of Sam Jackson playing Col. Nick Fury, but there have also been whispers of Hillary Swank playing a S.H.I.E.L.D agent, and Favreau as a Vegas security guard. Favreau says, “There is no truth to any of these rumors,” but then adds, “(Well, maybe one is true.)”

Ahhh!! Leave ’em wantin’ more, eh, John? I declare this story’s comments an official “fanboy forum” for uninformed opinion hurling as to which of these rumors may be true. I say Sam Jackson’s in the movie, because I’ve never wanted anything more in my whole life, except that pony on my sixteenth birthday, which I never got. Don’t you hurt me, too, John Favreau!
