Review: Pushing Daisies – The Complete First Season

Producing for television is a grueling endeavor dictated by merciless deadlines and limited budgets. Therefore, I’m always amazed when a program comes along that pushes the boundaries of the medium and approaches the production values normally reserved for the movies.

Pushing Daisies is just such a series. Inventively written, beautifully shot and wonderfully acted, the show is something of a minor miracle. How did something this special make it to the small screen?

Review – Rest Stop 2: Don’t Look Back

If you ever wanted to be grossed out, freaked out, and/or be killed by a man in a yellow truck Rest Stop 2 is your ticket into one crazy hell hole. If you’ve never heard of the Rest Stop series, it’s a straight to DVD gruesome horror series. Honestly Rest Stop 2 is not for the faint of heart. If you watch this film late at night, I guarantee that it will disturb the crap out of you. Our very own Ian Dawson, couldn’t watch this film past the first 10 minutes it’s that crazy.

I’ll Take You to the Candy Shop – Fastlane DVD Review

Written by: Rebecca Rodriguez

The summer of 2008 will go down in the history books as the summer of post-strike recovery. While viewers are eagerly awaiting the return of interrupted story lines and character arcs, they can still keep their DVD players functioning with a bevy of newly released series collections. The brightest firecracker since Fourth of July is Warner Bros release of Fastlane.

Created by McG (Charlie’s Angels) and John McNamara (TV’s The Fugitive), there is only one word to describe this series: slick. The series drips with the sort of gloss McG has become known for. High octane car chases matched with zippier dialogue mixed in with McG’s penchant for split screens and slow motion effects and you can see where current television darling Chuck gets its pedigree from.

Freakazoid Season 1 DVD Review

StuffWeLike.com reviews Freakazoid Season 1 DVD.

Created in the mid-90s Freakazoid is more of a variety cartoon show. Anything is possible in this super-hero based world. The story doesn’t matter. It’s about the comedy.

The first disk is filled with the best episodes. Disc 2 isn’t nearly as good because they do focus in on story elements.

The special features are just as good as the show. Really funny.

Kids might not get the jokes, but teenagers to adults will.

I say buy it. This is definitely a must see.

Watchmen DVD plans, “Tales of the Black Freighter” and more

Marooned

The anticipation is mounting up, as we inch closer and closer to next year’s much-awaited Watchmen. Not only is it a feature film offering of my most favourite graphic novel, but it is also made by Zack Snyder whom everyone loves for making 300. The movie will pretty much follow 300‘s style, but is a completely different movie in a completely different setting.

In the graphic novel, the main story is interspersed by segments of a comic book read by a street urchin, called “Tales of the Black Freighter”. These are pirate comic books, that tell the tale of a marooned man striving get back to shore to warn his family of the Black Freighter, a ghost pirate ship. The series serves as something of commentary on the events in the actual novel, among several other literary devices.

Hit the jump to find out what Warner plans on doing with it!
