It’s Grumpy Old Men on the Icelandic tundra as two brothers duke it out in a bitter rivalry over their flocks of sheep in the Icelandic film, Rams.
For over four decades Gummi and Kiddi have raised and been awarded for their top-shelf sheep and rams. And for over four decades neither brother has spoken a word to the other; their passion for their hatred toward each other is a strong as the lineage of each of their herds.
When an outbreak of a deadly disease threatens all the sheep in the valley where Gummi and Kiddi live, they decide that the best course of action – after many attempts to go at it alone – is to team up against the authorities who are on the march to destroy their herds in order to eradicate the threat once and for all.
This was the first foreign film I have ever seen from Iceland and I was pleasantly surprised and quite amused by the antics of these two cantankerous brothers. With it’s beautiful scenery and unique story, Rams is an enjoyable treat for those looking for a film off the beaten path with plenty of humor and a little bit of heart.
Along with the Theatrical Trailer, the Blu-ray edition includes an Interview with Director Grímur Hákonarson; and “Wrestling,” a short film by Director Grímur Hákonarson.
I recommend Rams available now on Blu-ray!
