Now this was fun! I really, really enjoyed this French zombie movie from IFC Films. It was exciting, fun, gory, and full of great action and horror moments that are sure to get any horror fan engaged.
The basic story is clever pretty interesting. A group of cops enter a building to stop a gang of thieves. Things go south when a horde of zombies appear outside and start to invade the building. Now the cops and the thieves have to find common ground and work together in order to survive the onslaught of undead trying to reach them.
Basic but effective, the movie is the story of survival of the fittest, and the action, gore, and suspense continue to ratchet upward until the final moments of the film. This is one zombie movie that’s definitely worth checking out.
I also liked that it’s a French film. Most French films we see and hear about in the United States are of the art film variety. It’s nice to see a good old-fashioned horror flick from France. So you have several options if you go to the “Setup” menu on the DVD. You can watch the film in French with English subtitles, or you can watch it dubbed in English.
Special features include: Alternate Opening; Making of Featurette; Short Film “Rivoallan;” Deleted Scenes; Drawing Studies (for Zombies and Sets); Poster Projects; Storyboard Extracts; French Teaser Trailer; and the US Trailer.
If you’re a fan of 28 Days Later, George Romero films, or AMC’s The Walking Dead, I recommend you check out The Horde and let me know what you think. Is it worthy of being part of the zombie movie canon?
The Horde is available NOW on DVD!
