Amazing. Fantastic. Inspiring. These are the words that best describe this documentary series from The History Channel, America: The Story of Us. The whole series is a whirlwind of sights and sounds from America’s founding to present day. It’s a fast-paced look at how we went from a small group of colonies to the thriving Democracy we are now in the 21st century.
The series kicks off with an intro by President Barack Obama who lays the foundation for the 12-part series we’re about to see. And each episode builds on he next, showing the evolution of our great nation from its stark beginnings to its current status as one of the world’s greatest superpowers.
Anyone who wants to learn about U.S. history without reading a dry textbook should seriously consider watching this compelling series. With interviews from historians, journalists, and even celebrities, America: The Story of Us delivers a plethora of history in a compact space. Even if you think you know everything about America’s history, check this series out anyway. I think you’ll be surprised.
The twelve hour-long episodes include the following: Rebels; Revolution; Westward; Division; Civil War; Heartland; Cities; Boom; Bust; World War II; Superpower; Millennium.
There are also bonus features on the first two discs that include a variety of Deleted Scenes that pertain to topics explored in the series.
For an excellent look at our nation’s history, I strongly recommend America: The Story of Us. You can also buy the companion book for the series – America: The Story of Us: An Illustrated History – by clicking here.
