Oh no! Whatever will the lazy WoW players of the world do? On Friday the Chinese government, specifically China’s Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Commerce, has made an attempt at crushing the thriving Gold Farming market.
The ministry has said “the virtual currency, which is converted into real money at a certain exchange rate, will only be allowed to trade in virtual goods and services provided by its issuer, not real goods and services”. What this means is that the entire market of gold farming is essentially illegal in China.
While a bad thing for the 400,000 workers and their customers, this is a ruling that I’m sure most MMO developers and publish are happy to hear.
