Holiday Music Rundown: Where’s My Kwanzaa CD???

As we all know, holiday music ranges from the traditional to the contemporary. Whether it’s the endless tunes on radio stations after Thanksgiving, or the holiday harmonies pumped into malls, grocery stores, or other public places, you can’t go anywhere without knowing what time of year it is.

Below is a listing of five holiday-themed CDs that might just brighten your holidays while either shopping, cooking, or gift-giving. And, to make it a bit less taxing than my previous posts, I will attempt to review each CD in a rhyming couplet. Here we go!

Elf: Music from the Motion Picture
New Line Records

Jazzy classics for Christmas abound,
In the soundtrack for this film where Will Ferrell is found!

A John Waters Christmas
New Line Records
Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics (thanks Tipper Gore)

From Hairspray, Pecker, A Dirty Shame and more,
John Water delivers holiday tunes for sure not to bore.

The Nativity Story: Sacred Songs
New Line Records

Religious favorites about Christ’s birth,
Those atheists in Olympia won’t find much worth.

Songs in the Key of Hanukkah
New Line Records

Dreidel, Drediel, Dreidel, your song is on Track Two,
Eight days of Hanukkah gifts, I wish I were a Jew.

Tony Bennett – Featuring the Count Basie Big Band: A Swingin’ Christmas
Columbia Records

Fun and jazzy, from the best,
It’s Tony Bennett, forget the rest!

So, there ya have it! All but John Waters are safe for all. Tony Bennett gets my vote for most entertaining; highly recommended.

Buy ‘em, download, ‘em, and have a great Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Boxing Day (Canada) everyone!!!
