Lewis Black is at the peak of his career right now. He’s headlining all across America, doing over forty Las Vegas shows a year, and he is one of the most celebrated comedians around. It’s about time he got his own show.
Here’s the way it works: Court Judge Lewis Black heres the cases from two comedian lawyers over which is more evil. For example, YouTube or Porn, Paris Hilton or Dick Cheney, and American Idol vs. High School. Each comedian presents their case over the course of the episode, and, by the end, Lewis Black decides which item is truly the root of all evil, and condemns it to a fitting and typically whimsical punishment. Comedians on the show include Patton Oswalt, Greg Giraldo, Andrew Daly, Andy Kindler, and Paul F. Tompkins.
This feels like a game show where the contestants are in charge. They can bend the rules, they can make it up as they go- the point is they’re having fun making fun of things that aren’t that fun.
Fun indeed.
It’s a great watch, and something my fellow cynics should be watching regularly. There are plenty of shows that give undeserving celebrities and unappreciated facets of life their metaphorical comuffins- but none in a format quite like this. The evil get what they deserve, and Lewis Black gets a fat paycheck.
All is as it should be.
