Ah, the romantic-comedy. Filled with quirkiness, laughs, heartwarming moments, and wacky antics, the rom-com has been a mainstay in cinema since the silent era. Along with romantic-comedies have come screen couples that people love to watch over and over again.
Rock Hudson and Doris Day. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. And the newest edition to the mix: Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey (they also appeared together in the film Fool’s Gold).
In 2003, a rom-com hit theatres that also struck a chord with audiences across America. The movie: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The premise: a columnist (Kate Hudson) for a trendy magazine (think Cosmo) decides to write an article on how to drive a man out of your life, in exactly ten days. The target: Benjamin Barry (McConaughey), who has taken a bet that he can get any woman to fall for him and sleep with him in just ten days.
So when these two meet, it’s a battle of wills as Hudson and McConaughey do their best to achieve the goal the other is trying to stop. Who will win? Who will lose? And will there be a happy ending?
The film also features an awesome cast, which includes Bebe Neuwirth (Frasier), Adam Goldberg (The Unusuals), Thomas Lennon (17 Again), and Kathryn Hahn (Anchorman).
Now, I also wonder why a new edition of the film has been released again after just 6 years. While the film is funny and charming, I’m not sure why they didn’t wait to release a new edition at the 10 year mark. Despite this, the DVD includes a number of special features, which include:
How to Make a Movie in 2 Years
A look back at the arduous task of getting the film made.
Why the Sexes Battle
Psychologists and other experts talk about why men and women fight, but still are attracted to one another. Get ready for the term “sexual selection.”
