America’s elite military team, G.I. Joe is back and ready to battle the evil terrorist organization known as Cobra in Season 1.1 of the classic cartoon series. Based on the HASBRO toys released starting in 1963, G.I. Joe is an action packed animated series that delivers plenty of excitement along with plenty of laughs.
Cobra Commander is one of my favorite cartoon villains. Maybe it’s his cool helmet, his blue jumpsuit, or his sexy and seductive voice. Imagine if Cobra, Dr. Claw (Inspector Gadget), and Megatron (Transformers) got together to take over the world! Now there’s an axis of evil.
This four DVD set from the Shout! Factory includes the following special features:
“Knowing is Half the Battle” PSAs
Classic safety PSAs that are campy and entertaining. Always worth a look.
Archival HASBRO Toy Commercials
Old school toy commercials that make you wonder: “If I had those toys now, how much would they be worth?”
1963 G.I. Joe – Toy Fair Presentation
A very entertaining pitch for the new G.I. Joe action figure. If you are unaware, G.I. Joes used to be the size of Barbies before they became as tiny as they are now. Check out all the cool gear, uniforms, and weaponry these vintage G.I. Joes cam equipped with.
Printable “Jungle Trap” Script
Print out the script on your computer (it downloads as a .pdf) and compare the scripted version to the final broadcast version on disc four. Write a three page compare/contrast essay about the similarities and differences. (20 points)
You also get a special booklet and tattoos! What more could you ask for?!
For those who enjoy old school 80s cartoons, G.I. Joe: Season 1.1 is a great show to watch. Yo Joe!
