Finding Nemo in 3D – Movie Review

I had never seen Finding Nemo before. It’s nothing personal. I loved the Toy Story trilogy, The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, Up, and Wall-E, but I just never got around to seeing Finding Nemo when it first came out oh so many years ago. But here was my chance not only to see it, but to see it on the big screen and in 3D!

First, there’s a fantastic, funny, and awesome Toy Story short before the film, which is worth the price of admission even if you’ve seen Nemo a hundred times before. I don’t want to give away anything, but Rex (Wallace Shawn) is the star of this particular short and it’s just great on multiple levels. It really gets you in the mood for some classic Disney/Pixar storytelling.

Onward to Finding Nemo, which looks great in 3D and is a lot of fun. There’s plenty of action, adventure, laughs, emotion, and excitement to be found, while also giving us a very adult story about letting go and allowing your children to live their own lives. Heavy stuff for a regular film, but even a more challenging feat to pull off with fish!

And do they do it? You bet your sweet blowfish they do! That’s the beauty of Disney/Pixar films. They appeal to both kids and adults without having to delve into the juvenile humor well too often. I feel like these movies have mass appeal because they don’t dumb things down for the audience. They treat the audience with respect and don’t spoon feed them every joke, emotion, or theme. That’s why Disney/Pixar is the best at theatrical animation at the moment.

With plenty of great characters and a stellar voice cast, Finding Nemo is a timeless classic that will forever be considered one of the best films Disney/Pixar has to offer. If you have never seen it, I highly recommend you check it out!
