And it isn’t Dragon Quest either, though it is related.
Square Enix is secretly working on an action role-playing game, according to a leak from Famitsu. Development will be handled by a Tokyo-based studio, spearheaded by Ryutaro Ichimura, who’s produced several Dragon Quest games before this.
It’ll be based on the Unreal engine provided by Epic and the core team consists of 35 (presumably talented) members. According to the leak, the character design implies the game being aimed for a Western market. This would be an interesting shift of pace, as most Japanese RPGs are built with Japanese gamers in mind. This also plays in well with Square Enix’s expansionist agenda of infiltrating the Western gaming industry and then possibly achieving world domination after hiring thousands of disposable minions.
