Since the announcement of the Gears of War movie in 2008 not too much has been heard from the front lines. The movie was supposed to premiere last year but that didn’t happen. Finally Cliffy B, design director for Epic Games and directly connected to the project, has decided to tell GameFront and the world just how bad things are, “It’s in development hell right now.”
“Who knows what’ll happen”, he adds. “It took however many years for Peter Jackson to make Lord of the Rings. Hollywood is a complicated beast. There’s all sorts of weirdness going on with who’s working on it, what’s going on here and there. But, hopefully it happens. Maybe the Gears 3 success will generate more interest in it. I’d love to see it. I’d rather have a movie that’s great and true to the franchise, than a movie that sucks. I’d rather not have a movie, than a movie that sucks.”
For those that aren’t familiar with Hollywood lingo, development hell is essentially perpetual limbo for any kind of project. In other words, we’re not going to see this for a long time if at all.
