The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Volume Four – DVD Review

The weepy and over-emotional Amy Juergens is back in Volume Four of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. I really enjoy this teen soap opera that has become a hit series on ABC Family along with Make It Or Break It and Greek. In this particular volume, emotions and complications continue to run at full speed as Amy, Ben, Adrian, Ricky, Jack, Grace, and all the others struggle to work through the trials and tribulations of teendom.

The main issue on the table: SEX. In case you didn’t know, this is the primary topic that almost all the storylines revolve around. Good sex, bad sex, oral sex, gay sex, phone sex, sex for money, sex with yourself, no sexual topic appears to be off limits. And as relationships begin, end, and morph into other configurations, sex continues to permeate every aspect of these character’s lives.

Volume Four delivers plenty of drama and tension as Amy and Ben continue to struggle with their relationship issues, Ricky and Adrian try to have a relationship without sex, Grace and Jack explore other relationship options, and Ashley rebels against her parents’ wishes. There’s a lot going on and it comes at a fast pace throughout every episode.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager is addictive. While it does take dramatic situations to the nth degree of the emotional spectrum, the series keeps you wanting to see what happens next. Who will hook up with whom? Who will break-up with whom? And will Amy finally stop crying and assert herself in an adult manner (not that she has very good role models in the adult arena)?

Volume Four includes several special features, which include a booklet that contains the first entry from the new novel The Secret Diary of Ashley Juergens. You also get:

Behind The Secret Scenes

Cast On Family

If you already know the show, you know you want to buy this. If you’ve never seen the series, I recommend starting with season one and working your way to this volume. Things will make a lot more sense, and you’ll get to see how the characters have evolved/not evolved over the years. I highly recommend The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Volume Four!
