Marvel’s X-Men: The Animated Series, Volume 5 – DVD Review

In 1963, Marvel Comics debuted the first X-Men comic book. Ever since their first issue, the X-Men have become a staple in the Marvel Universe, creating an exciting and dynamic world in which mutant superheroes and human attempt to co-exist together. Along for the ride were a host of villains led by Magneto who would be a constant thorn in the side of the X-Men for decades.

Today, the X-Men have gained greater popularity thanks to the X-Men movie franchise, which includes X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), the origin film X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), and the upcoming X-Men: First Class in 2011. It appears the X-Men are here to say at a movie theater near you.

In 1992, X-Men: The Animated Series hit the air and ran for five seasons. This DVD set includes the complete fifth season of the X-Men animated series and includes a special episode involving Wolverine and Captain America. This final set of episodes is exciting and fun to watch as the X-Men work together to stop a slew of villainous ne’er do wells up to no good!

As a huge fan of Captain America (until he became a werewolf and I kinda lost interest), I was excited to see the episode “Old Soldiers” featuring the red, white, and blue hero. I was not disappointed. It was a great episode and so are the other 13 included in this final set.

No special features to be found, but the X-Men have such a huge fan base and following that most people know the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the X-Men. I recommend this series to anyone interested in the X-Men. It’s worth watching.

Marvel’s X-Men: The Animated Series, Volume 5 is now available on DVD!!
