With Ryan Reynolds signed up for the titular hero of the Green Lantern movie the pre-production is being run through rather quickly. Unfortunately, due to the poor economy, not all is going so well with the production. Warner Brothers recently had to pull production of the movie out of Australia due to the weak American dollar. It doesn’t mean the movie is canceled, just that it’ll be shot somewhere else, likely Mexico.

All of the news it not bad news though! Martin Campbell, director of Goldeneye and Casino Royale, has been confirmed to be the director of the Green Lantern movie. A lot of great potential there if the script is right, but if there was any hope of him doing the next Bond film it’s gone up in smoke with being tied to this movie.

As for the role of Green Lantern turned villian Sinestro, there has been rumors that Jackie Earle Haley, Rorshach from the Watchmen movie and Freddie Krueger in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, might be taking up the Yellow ring for the movie. A source for AICN is saying that Haley is at the top of the list to cast in the role for Sinestro.

The same source also says that the big blue man himself, Superman, will be making a cameo in the movie. What’s the reason for this? The rights to Superman were recently returned to the estates of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

This leaves Warner Brothers with the choice of starting a Superman movie production before 2011 and finished before 2013, or forced to pay for the rights for superman. As no movie is planned, this is their best choice, perhaps a prelude to a JLA movie, or just something to get people in the seats for a hero they’re not familar with.

It’s mostly all rumor, save the part of Martin Campbell directing, so take it with a grain of salt. If it all pans out as rumored then we’re in for some seriously good ring-slinging action when this movie comes out.
