No Fox at San Diego Comic-Con 07

Aliens vs. Predator

In a surprising twist of events Fox has decided to pull-out of its scheduled presentation at Comic-Con 07 in San Diego on July 26-29. Fox previously stated that Aliens vs. Predator 2, Jumper, Babylon A.D., and Hitman were all going to be shown off.

Comic-Con is a huge event every year where geeks share their love of comics, anime, video games, and of course movies. With a predication of over 123,000 attendees this year Comic-Con has become the place for studios to showcase their upcoming science fiction offerings.

The studio’s vice president of national publicity, Sean Dudas, said on Wednesday that, “The material wasn’t ready and we only want to go out when we can put our best foot forward.”

Your kids will now know the power of the Dark Side with Lord Vader himself

Darth Vader Laptop for the kiddies

This is why you shouldn’t hand the product design over to Star Wars geeks. The horrific contraption above is a laptop for kids, in the shape of Darth Vader’s infamous helmet. Your kids will be able to play a selection of 50 different games with it, by using the handy lightsaber-shaped pointer attached to it. ‘Themed marketing’ indeed.

Here are its (rather scary) features, straight from the product page:

Darth Vader laptop is the ultimate learning toy for your children. Enter Sith’s realm and let Darth Vader challenge young children’s skills in mind-blowing games in logic, music, and other breathtaking activities.

“Breathtaking”? With Lord Vader? I have a bad feeling about this. It comes with other silly features like a headphone jack and the lightsaber-thingie actually makes a sound as it is waved around.

As cool as it looks to a Star Wars Geek like myself, I’m not quite sure if it is… well, okay to let my kid learn under a menacing Sith Lord who took up choking people and slicing hands as a hobby. I mean, Yoda or some Jedi could have been reasonable. But Lord Vader?!

D’oh! Pagans irritated by Homer Simpson

Homer vs. God of Fertility

The large white guy you see to the right in the image above is a great Fertility Symbol for the Pagans, named simply as the Cerne Abbas giant. The large white guy you see to the left in the image above is a great Cartoon Character for Americans, named simply as the Homer Simpson. And Pagans don’t like him.

The figure of giant above is supposedly from the 17th century and is regarded by the Pagan community to be a great fertility symbol. Heck, I can see his great fertility symbol right here, folks. He is located in Cerne Abbas, Dorset (which is in Great Britain) and has been revered for centuries. Well, some time ago he’s got competition.

The image of Homer Simpson armed with a donut and underwear was drawn with biodegradable paint to promote the upcoming Simpsons movie. A fine marketing idea, in my opinion. But the Pagans have been enraged by ol’ Homer.

Ann Bryn-Evans, joint Wessex district manager for The Pagan Federation, said: “It’s very disrespectful and not at all aesthetically pleasing.

“We were hoping for some dry weather but I think I have changed my mind. We’ll be doing some rain magic to bring the rain and wash it away.”

She added: “I’m amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous. It’s an area of scientific interest.”

Rain magic? Predict that, Weather Channel! The Pagans are further irritated that bringing cascading down will cause a mess as it washes Homer and his donut away. Is it a Church conspiracy? Who knows. But it sure as hell is funny.

Cloverfield, another look into madness

[Update]Check out more of our Cloverfield Coverage!

Okay, Garbled Zombie posted two articles about this movie a few weeks ago but much of the article is littered with information that has since been proven false. EthanHaasWasRight is not related to Cloverfield, this has been confirmed by producer J.J. Abrams, in fact it seems to viral marketing for a game called Alpha-Omega. So, while EHWR is not for Cloverfield there are viral Marketing sites out there. One of those all-but-confirmed sites is Slusho, but there is evidence backing up this claim. A scene in the trailer shows a character wearing a shirt with the slusho logo and name on it.

Picture of character with help from the 1-18-08 fanblog

Now, not only is that in the movie, but the company has been tied directly to past Abrams works. The name Slusho was in an episode of Alias, which was produced by Abrams himself, as an Icee type company. The site itself has been stated as a marketing site for Cloverfield by an inside source according to NBC, but not by Paramount of Abrams. The site is strange to say the least. The product’s history is riddled with more than it’s share of Engrish translations and shows a very mysterious past about the company’s creator and his family. The likelihood of the site being fake is slim, but still possible.

third official picture

Now since the last few posts another picture has come up. It doesn’t provide much, if any, information, but it’s definitely after the “attack” by the parasite. The smoke could be anything, an expulsion of gas from the parasite or just smoke from the falling debris of the surrounding buildings. Something that has been pointed out in the the last picture though, a girl in the lower right hand corner of the party has a photoshopped number on her, the number 9. The significance of this has yet to be seen.

Championship Gaming Series

Video game tournaments have never been treated with much of any respect in the US. The Championship Gaming Series aims to change that by having high octane adrenaline gaming all a TV channel away – If you have DIRECTV!

From what I’ve seen they actually are trying out new things such as giving coaches to teams. These coaches actually yell at players as they are playing the game. This does add some nice action every now and then.

Check out some clips for yourself in our media player below. You can see the full shows on channel 101, every Monday and Wednesday at 10 pm EST/7 pm PST throughout the month of July.

Universal to handle new Dracula movie

An older, more sophisticated Dracula.

I wonder what Bram Stoker would have to say about all the ridiculous Dracula interpretations in this day and age. Or heck, I wonder what Count Vlad himself might have said. I enter this philosophical soliloquy in lamentation of an act of torture committed by Universal Pictures. They are making a new Dracula movie. And I predict its going to be terrible.

Titled “Dracula Year Zero”, this new flick will be directed by Alex Proyas and produced by Micheal de Luca. The story, written by Mark Sazama and Burk Sharpless, will be revolving around Count Vlad “Dracula” himself, rather than a Victorian-era Dracula. Count Vlad, if you don’t know, was a Romanian Warlord who scared the living daylights out of the invading Turks. He was the prime inspiration for Bram Stoker to make Dracula.

The movie can be then, an excellent sword-slashing, curse-babbling period action flick with some supernatural influence here and there. Proyas said that the project “manages to play off the horror and the sympathy you have for a character that sells his soul to the Devil to save his kingdom and family.”

Dracula will be at the height of his powers and bashing Turks open in the movie. I wonder if Sazama and Sharpless decided to cross 300 with Dracula and see what happens. Heh.

“One of the cool things about this is that we’re doing it at Universal,” Sharpless said. “This is the home of monster movies.”

I can’t figure out here whether he means ‘monster’ as in terrible creatures or terrible, impossible-to-watch movies. Awesome or not, this is one movie I’d like to keep my eyes on.
