Star Trek Online Coverage

The game that was flip flopping all over the place, apparently is actually being made. Yeah and it doesn’t look that bad either!

I honestly can’t wait. The game takes place 30 years after Nemesis. You get to work your way up to Captain. You get to control your character across planets, go aboard your ship, and then fly it around space.

Create your own race or go with a race we’ve already seen (Humans, Vulcans, and everyone else). Customize your ships and characters. At launch you can be part of Star Fleet or the Klingon Empire. Combat, exploration, tactical actions are all here.

The graphics look solid for an MMO.

Still no news on when it will be released. Below is the video conference held by the developer Cryptic Studios at the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas.

The Olympics Brings in the Viewers

The Olympics are here, if you haven’t noticed! The results are coming in and the Opening Ceremony in Beijing was the MOST VIEWED EVER for a non-U.S. Summer Olympics. It had nearly 70 million total viewers, 14 million more than Athens (56 million).

NON-U.S. OPENING CEREMONY TOTAL AUDIENCE:
1) Beijing – 2008 – 69.9 million
T2) Athens – 2004 – 56.0 million
T2) Sydney – 2000 – 56.0 million
4) Seoul – 1988 – 51.2 million
5) Barcelona – 1992 – 50.2 million

“The Olympic Opening Ceremony captivated the American public in unprecedented numbers for a non-U.S. Olympics,” said Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics. “It was a magical and memorable spectacle and a great way to start the Beijing Olympics.”

Of course you can catch all the coverage on NBCOlympics.com. Even this website has had a huge traffic spike: 70 million page views on Friday, 10 times more than the seven million page views on the opening day of the Athens Games.

PWN or Die

From the makers of FunnyorDie.com, comes their latest spin-off PWNorDie.com. What’s great about this video site is that it’s geared towards techies at large and of course fanboys are welcome! They’ve already got tons of video game companies putting content up there. They also have Chris Pirillo, Fatal1ty, and yours truly StuffWeLike.

Know you, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. The only thing that’s annoying about the site is the low video resolution. Why would any hardcore gamer want to watch trailers that aren’t in high definition?

YouTube Auto Plays ALL User’s Channel Videos

[Update: Ok seemed like a glitch. Only Partner accounts have the auto-play feature.]

I don’t know if this is a glitch or if YouTube is keeping this feature. Previously only YouTube Partner videos auto-played, but now all user channels auto-play.

YouTube has been under scrutuny for how it measures views. Auto-plays used to count as a view, but now that every channel has auto-play enabled, I would imagine that auto-plays no longer count as a view.

I was pretty pissed off when I went to my channel and saw the video auto-play. At first I thought I had become a Partner. Nope.

Now anytime I visit my channel I’ll have to hear myself. How annoying.

GameTap for Sale

Looks like GameTap’s parent company Turner is selling the video game online service. I’ve always liked the GameTap service, but at the same time it has lacked greatly in original and mainstream titles. I reviewed American McGee’s Grimm a couple of days ago, which was a step in the right direction.

Ultimately, GameTap has always appealed on nostalgic gamers. Old games are great for some time, but playing console games on the PC kind of sucks. I need a controller in my hands if I want a nostalgic feel. I do like that I can play tons of retro games, ones that I never bothered renting at the old-school Blockbusters. Oh Blockbuster how I don’t bother going to you anymore. But that’s a different story.

It was also a shame to see GameTap TV axed from its service. Back in the day, I actually used to have GameTap on my computer only for their videos! I didn’t bother playing games on it. Mixing in videos with games is a perfect combo

GameTap should merge with either GameFly, or some film distribution place like NetFlix. Imagine being able to watch movies and play games on your PC with ease.

Hopefully GameTap is able to stand up on its own two feet.

Freakazoid Season 1 DVD Review

StuffWeLike.com reviews Freakazoid Season 1 DVD.

Created in the mid-90s Freakazoid is more of a variety cartoon show. Anything is possible in this super-hero based world. The story doesn’t matter. It’s about the comedy.

The first disk is filled with the best episodes. Disc 2 isn’t nearly as good because they do focus in on story elements.

The special features are just as good as the show. Really funny.

Kids might not get the jokes, but teenagers to adults will.

I say buy it. This is definitely a must see.
