This show kicks ass! Blood. Gore. Guts. Nudity. Action. More nudity. Spartacus: War of the Damned has it all and the decapitations, dismemberments, and impalings just keep on coming with each intense episode. From the first moments of the season premiere to the haunting beauty of the finale, Spartacus: War of the Damned will have you cheering, cringing, and mesmerized from start to finish.
The third season in the Spartacus series, I really didn’t feel like I needed to go back and watch the previous seasons for clarity. Instead, I wanted to check out the previous seasons just to see if they were as badass as this one. And this is one testostertone-fueled, action-packed, gorefest that definitely made me want to return to the beginning of the series to see how it all began.
Spartacus: War of the Damned brings history to life, taking a real figure from Ancient Rome’s past – that would be Spartacus (Liam McIntyre returning once more) – and giving his story an action movie feel that is reminiscent of the gladiator and sand and sandal epics out of 50s and 60s Hollywood (like Spartacus starring Kirk Douglas). The primary difference being the level of violence and sex is increased a thousand-fold, all the betterment of the universe in which these characters dwell.
The visual effects on this series are top-notch, up there with the best that big screen epics have to offer but doing it on a weekly basis. The scope and sheer magnitude of some of the battle sequences is jaw-dropping and awesome. I can honestly say that the special effects and visual effects on this series are nothing short of amazing!
Spartacus: War of the Damned on blu-ray is loaded with special features, which include:
