In all honesty, I had my doubts about Castle when I saw the promos for it during the last couple seasons of Lost. It seemed like it was a throwback to the 80s TV crime shows and films where two mismatched partners end up having more in common than meets the eye. So when I received season two to review I was a bit skeptical.
Until I watched a few episodes.
I really found myself intrigued and wanting to watch more. While it may not be a blood-and-guts crime show like CSI, or a ripped from the headlines series like Law & Order, Castle does deliver plenty of great crime-drama with each episode.
Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic have great chemistry, and the crimes and the subsequent investigation, deduction, and solution are clever and interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a series that teams a bestselling mystery novelist with a by-the-book cop before. It’s definitely what gives this series a fresh perspective on a tried-and-true genre.
Like the previous season, season two delivers plenty of witty banter, bizarre cases, a bit of romance, and plenty of zany adventures for the mismatched team. It’s a lot of fun to watch.
Castle’s Bonus Features include: On Set With Seamus (Deaver) & Jon (Huertas); On Location with Nathan (Fillion); Manhattan’s Most Unusual Murders; Deleted Scenes; Misdemeanors: Bloopers & Outtakes; and the Castle Starter Kit that recaps season one and lays out what you need to know before watching season two.
