Vampire Diaries is the middle ground between the drab Twilight and the awesome and sexually-charged True Blood. It reminded me a lot of Dawson’s Creek with vampires, which makes sense considering that Kevin Williamson created Dawson’s Creek and helped bring this series to TV.
Based on the novels by L.J. Smith, the show delivers plenty of dramatic, sensual, romantic, and vampire-filled moments that are sure to energize and excite vampire lovers far more than Twilight ever could.
The series features a great cast, which includes Ian Somerhalder who many will recognize from ABC’s Lost. Somerhalder and Paul Wesley play rival vampire brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore who show up one day in the small town of Mystic Falls, VA.
When Damon arrives at the local high school, he comes across Elena (Nina Dobrev), who is the spitting image of the woman he once loved 150 years ago (remember, he’s a vampire). Trouble is, his brother was also in love with the same woman. Could this possibly cause problems for the vampire brothers? Which one will win not only her heart, but her soul?
This is an addictive, intriguing, and engaging series. I’ve never been a fan of CW series, but Vampire Diaries is definitely one worth checking out. While it may not have the same level of sex and violence present in the fantastic True Blood on HBO, Vampire Diaries delivers lots of twists, turns, thrills, and excitement to keep vampire lovers riveted.
Loaded with special features, the DVD box set includes: Into Mystic Falls: Bringing Vampire Lore and the High School Experience from Page to Screen; What Vampires Don’t Suck!: The Popularity of Vampires and the Fans Who Love Them; The Vampire Diaries: A New Breed of Vampires – Casting the Series…
But wait, there’s more!
Unaired Scenes; The Vampire Diaries: Vampires 101 – The Rules of of the Vampire; Creators/Director Pilot Commentary; The Vampire Diaries: A Darker Truth Webisodes; Second Bite: Gag Reel; and the Downloadable Audiobook of the Bestselling Novel The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening by L.J. Smith.
I highly recommend you check out this great vampire-centric series. For more info on the show, check out the official site by clicking here.
