The Bourne Identity star is attached to portray the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy in a new biopic.
Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) will direct and scribe Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) will write the film, which is based upon author Evan Thomas’s RFK biography, His Life. Deadline Hollywood says, “The film will trace RFK’s transformation from the younger brother in the shadow brother President John F. Kennedy to a strong national leader in his own right before he was gunned down in 1968.”
Knight’s screenplay is still in limbo pending Damon’s approval. If the project comes to fruition, it may go head-to-head with Chris Columbus’s upcoming film The Last Campaign, which recounts RFK’s short-lived presidential bid. Not since Volcano and Dante’s Peak have audience loyalties been so tested. Okay, bad examples.
