Why so serious you ask? Well, at the time of it’s cinema release The Dark Knight was the new IMDB #1 highest rated movie beating everything under the sun including The Godfather Parts 1, 2 and unsurprisingly 3.
Now that people in more counties have seen the movie it’s come down in it’s IMDB rating significantly so it’s now #3 overall. Considering the rave reviews it might be that Dark Knight is better suited to an American audience as to have almost a full point taken out by international cinema goers from it’s overall out of 10 score must indicate something.
Right now the current status on the sequel isn’t up to Warner Bros as in a current interview they stated that conversations regarding a third movie have not even taken place yet. Yet with the huge dollar signs floating above the Batman name right now a third movie appears to anything but impossible.
The latest Batman blockbuster, The Dark Knight, is on its way to beating Titanic as the top-grossing movie of all time. But at what cost? Over the course of the production and after its premiere, it seems as if the main cast of The Dark Knight has some sort of curse on them. No, not some voodoo, Magic: The Gathering sort of curse, let’s just say a streak of bad luck.

This is only a friendly reminder that Stuffwelike let’s you know the news you need to know first. In relation to The Dark Knight movie we covered a story way back at the beginning of the year about how IMDB let the ending of The Dark Knight leak in a news story. Even though no other news website mentioned it, we did and if you look at it after watching the movie you will see how we were right on the button about SPOILER how the joker wouldn’t get killed off. For those of us who covered the story knowing a part of the ending was a real pain when watching the movie.
We can even guess how he would have been reintroduced during the next movie in the series as it would make sense taking prior Batman incarnations into account. After the end of Dark Knight he would have been taken into Arkham nuthouse where all Batman’s enemies are kept and then at the beginning of the next movie he would break out with the assistance of the new villain. Having the joker work as his sidekick, in a way.

First a confession, the writer of this piece does happen to be a currently working film critic so there is a little bias on my part. On IMDB there is a story about how newspaper critics that didn’t come out with The Dark Knight is the best movie ever made have been receiving hate mail in massive quantities. Not just small time reviewers but even those such as the critics for the Wall Street Journal and Los Angeles Times.
One of the reviewers has even commented that “I’ve gotten 250 or 300 e-mails, almost all with the vilest, most abusive language you could possibly imagine. I was stunned. These people aren’t just discourteous. They’re insane.” The comments continued with “I write for an educated readership and usually the responses to my reviews are courteous and collegial,” he remarked. “But this was really ugly. It did feel like a mob.”
My two cents on this is by default for print published reviewers there are two default settings for comments. The first is that a no feedback policy is enabled between the editor and reviewer so they receive no feedback from the readership and thus feel no pressure beyond providing an honest opinion. The other option is to publish the reviewers email address and allow them to feel the full force of the readership. This is a negative in my opinion as comments made do leave a lasting impression and everything under the sun would receive a generic 3/5 as to not upset anyone one way or the other.

After breaking the opening day record held by Spiderman 3
for US only box-office takings The Dark Knight is
taking on the biggest movies of all time. A movies IMDB rating
is considered the crowning glory and the main thing that most
movie buffs take into consideration when looking at buying movies
they have not heard of. After the first few days of it’s release
Dark Knight is now (at time of writing) the #1 highest scoring
movie with 23,611 votes rating it at 9.7/10.
That’s a full .6 points higher than the previous record holder
The Godfather. While this might be just a quick passing achievement
if the film is able to hold above a 9.0 on the scale then it will be
a solid earner for a long time to come. Just as in prior decades
a film would increase in revenue just because of being
nominated/winning an Oscar, now it’s all down to IMDB and the net.
If the box office takings match the level of critical praise then
it would be hard not to imagine another Batman film coming out
soon. If there is another movie who would you like to see as the
primary villain if those in The Dark Knight are excluded from the running?
