Renner Takes Hollywood

It looks like The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner may be the hottest thing to hit Hollywood since the advent of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Reuters reports that the Oscar nominee is in talks to star in a number of notable projects.  First up, Renner will appear alongside Ewan McGregor in The Raven.  The film, directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), is a fictional period piece about the final five days of Poe’s life in which the poet must help track down a serial killer who uses his stories for inspiration.

Renner will follow The Raven by appearing in either director Peter Berg’s adaptation of the board game Battleship or a mysterious project that Renner’s had “no fewer than five meetings” about.  Both films will begin shooting this summer, so the nascent star will have to choose between the two projects.  Movieline believes this mysterious second film may be director Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. Either way I’m disappointed that no one is producing an adaptation of Candy Land.  Where is justice, I ask?

It’s shaping up to be a productive year for Renner.  The topping on the cake will be if he wins the Oscar for Best Actor.  Unfortunately for Renner, this is only likely to happen if aliens bend time and space to prevent Jeff Bridge’s nomination for Crazy Heart.
