2012 – Soundtrack Review

As I made my way home for Thanksgiving, I checked out the soundtrack to the latest disaster flick, 2012. I was not disappointed. Intense musical moments of action and suspense, mixed with more dramatic pieces, made the soundtrack fun to listen to while braving the traffic on I-5 from SoCal to NorCal the day before Thanksgiving.

If you’ve heard the soundtracks to Independence Day or The Day After Tomorrow, there are similarities in terms of the way all three films are scored. This may be due to the fact that all three movies were directed by Roland Emmerich, who does present a distinct style when it comes to this genre of film.

Again, as I said in my review of the film, if you are not a fan of this genre or style of film I don’t recommend this for you. This is for people who like these types of movies and their music.

2012’s score was composed by Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander, who also brought music to the film 10,000 B.C. (another Emmerich film).

The two songs that play during the end credits (and there are a lot of end credits) include “Time for Miracles” by American Idol’s Adam Lambert [see pic above], and “Fades like a Photograph” by Filter. Both excellent songs that tie into the themes of the film.

If you hate movie soundtracks but like the songs during the end credits, you can always download them separately. For everyone else, I recommend 2012’s soundtrack. It’s fun to listen to and also quite fun to drive to.
