DVD annoucements are not something we would normally cover but due to the tech nature of this one its worth mentioning. The second season of the CGI re-done episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series are going to be released on DVD. Not a HD/DVD combo edition as before but only on DVD.

While most home users outside the US might not have a problem with this for several years Paramount not converting Star Trek to Blu-ray right away might raise a few heads. Right now the DVD release is set for a 5th August release at 100 USD but with how many times Star Trek has been released and on how many formats a Blu-ray release really is only a matter of time.  Still it makes you wonder, why not right away?

That stinks. The whole purpose to buy these DVDs is to buy them in HD.
