My Best Friend is a Wookiee: A Memoir – Book Review

This book is freaking hilarious! Tony Pacitti delivers plenty of great stories, memories, and laughs in his nerd-centric memoir, My Best Friend is a Wookiee. Pacitti’s journey through life as seen through the lens of his love for Star Wars is an excellent book for young an old, and especially poignant if you are a fan of Star Wars or sci-fi in general.

Wookiee explores the trials and tribulations of a young boy growing up within the context of his fanboy love the original George Lucas trilogy of Star Wars films. It all begins with his first encounter with episode five, The Empire Strikes Back, which struck such a deep and resonant chord with Pacitti that his life was never the same.

From the young age of seven when he saw episode five, Pacitti began to see Star Wars in everyday situations and encounters. His life became consumed with parallels to the first three films, and his world was forever seen through the Star Wars lens.

And then the new trilogy was released and everything Pacitti thought he knew would change forever. Despite his tragic encounters with the latest three Star Wars films, Pacitti found the power to move forward and continue to bask in the ever-present glow of the original films.

Pacitti’s book is a lot of fun and very funny. He definitely would fit right in with the foursome on The Big Bang Theory. If you’re looking for an entertaining, funny, and laugh-out-loud reading experience, I recommend My Best Friend is a Wookiee. You won’t be disappointed!
