Joost Experiments with Live Video

Joost

I haven’t talked much about Joost on StuffWeLike. One of the reasons for that is that I don’t particular like their service. It has a crappy user interface with a catalog of videos that never seem to update, at least they never did when Joost first launched.

Today I received an email about testing Joost live video. It definitely caught my attention because it’s P2P live streaming video. On Thursday, March 13, at 2 p.m. EDT, 6 p.m. GMT public testing begins. Three simple steps and you can test their video:

1. Go to Joost.com and download the newest version of Joost.
Install it.

2. At 2 p.m. EDT (11 a.m. PDT, 6 p.m. GMT, 7 p.m. CET),
start Joost, and go to the Joost LIVE Test category.
Launch the Leiden LIVE P2P channel.

3. Start watching. (If you want, go to My Joost -> Channel Chat
to see who else is watching with you.)

This test will show video interviews with the people behind Live streaming video on Joost. If all goes well soon enough we may be able to watch live sports being broadcasted on Joost. Now that’d be tight.

Hulu Going Public

Finally the awesome Hulu video power house is going public! Previously in a private beta for months, the high quality video ad supported site is going public on March 12. It has some new partners to add to its content provider list as well including Warner Bros and Lionsgate!

I’ve been using Hulu for some time now and it’s absolutely fantastic. Sure it’s a pain the ears when the commercials come on blaring at 5 decibels louder than the actual show, but besides that the service has been great. Hopefully their servers won’t be destroyed when the public breaks in!

StuffWeLike Videos Go Shiny

It’s not everyday that you get to say something like that, but today is a special day! We’ve got a brand-new shiny player for you all to feast your eyes on! A larger version is available on the Videos page. One of the swanky new features that this player includes is a built-in chatroom.

Please let us know what you think!

Gimme More – Pills

To say that I like Britney Spears, is pretty much a lie. Not that I hate her in any such way, but she needs to take a chill pill and get out of the headline news for one day. With that in mind, internet video creator Greg Scarnici made Gimme More Pills. Based on Spears’ poor performance at the MTV 2007’s Music Video Awards, – months later – Scarnici has come up with a hilarious spoof.

Is it wrong to enjoy twisted videos like these?

Justice League Movie On Again

DC Comic’s The Justice LeagueDC Comic’s The Justice League

On again, off again.

Hollywood works like that.

Because of the writers strike in Hollywood, Warner Bros. “shelved” their planned big budget, live action ‘Justice League’ movie back on January 16, 2008.

Movie was to be directed by George Miller (‘Happy Feet’) and starred Adam Brody as the Flash, rapper Common as the Green Lantern, and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman. Movie was to be based on the popular DC Comic characters.

But now that the strike is over, the WB has once again given the movie a green light and everyone is back at work including screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney, with production slated to start later this year.

Did You See Those Zombies in the Mall?

Dawn of the DeadDawn of the Dead

You know that old adage, “Seen one zombie, you’ve seen them all?”

No, well neither have I.  But MKR Group, a boutique investor relations firm specializing in the representation of small companies across a broad spectrum of industries filed a lawsuit against Japanese video gamer Capcom Entertainment Inc. on Monday, February 25, alleging Capcom infringed on the copyright of the 1978 film ‘Dawn of the Dead’ to which it owns rights.

You remember ‘Dawn of the Dead’ the 1978 and 2004 remake movies scripted by George A. Romero – well, MKR contends that Capcom’s “Dead Rising” stole the idea  of people trapped in a shopping mall full of zombies from Romero’s original script.

“Dead Rising” was released on Xbox 360 in August 2006 and sold more than a million units in its first five months of sale.

Both ‘Dawn of the Dead’ and “Dead Rising” provide “thoughtful social commentary on the ‘mall culture’ zeitgeist” as well as “a sizeable portion of sensationalistic violence”, wrote MKR in its court brief.

“Mall Culture Zeitgeist”??!!  Geez, since when have mall zombies become part of youth culture?
