Xbox 360 Reigns Supreme

At E3 07 Microsoft revealed the following charts:

360 e3 chart1

360 e3 chart 2

360 e3 chart 3

They are both informative and pretty.

This Monday, Games Critics awarded Xbox 360 38 nominations for the 2007 Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 – 17 more than last year – compared to 29 for Playstation 3 and 14 for Wii. This makes Xbox 360 the most nominated platform with 38 nominations overall. Microsoft Game Studios also tallied an impressive number of nominations with eight in total.

Microsoft Game Studios’ nominated games include “Mass Effect” (MGS) for Best in Show, Best Console, and Best RPG title. “Fable 2” (MGS) was also nominated for Best RPG. “Halo 3” (MGS) garnered nods for Best Action game and Best Online Multiplayer, and “Halo Wars” (MGS) snagged a nomination for Best Strategy game. “Project Gotham Racing 4” (MGS) also received a nomination for Best Racing title.

Fully-working, actual-size Warthog is for real.

Warthog - Mini-Size

I will not hesitate to say now that I had underestimated Microsoft’s words when they claimed to take Halo 3’s marketing to the extreme. Bungie has revealed that the “live-action Halo 3 trailer” is actually the first of a series of Shorts that will be directed by Neill Blomkamp. Blomkamp is also the director for the slowly-progessing Halo movie, expected to be released in 2009.

The thing above, designed by the awesome folks at Weta Workshop is a fully-functional, true-to-scale model of the Warthog. When I mean fully-functional, I mean working like the real deal you play in the games. It’s a mean-driving 4×4, it can should be used off-road and it actually has a machine gun at the back. To quote Bungie representative ‘Frankie’, “Goddamn. It’s a Warthog.”

The Weta Workshop is famous for developing physical and special effects for several high-level movies, including the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, King Kong, the Chronicles of Narnia and of course, the upcoming Halo movie. And you thought Peter Jackson was the only connection between LotR and Halo.

The Weta Workshop is based in New Zealand, meaning that you will most likely not be able to touch this sweet baby. Of course, some of the lucky ones actually get to drive this thing. Without a freaking Xbox. Click on the thumbnail below for a very high-res photo.

Video Game Review Compilation

What if I reviewed Lord of the Rings Online, Ancient Sparta, Infernal, Stalker, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Hitman Trilogy, Zendoku, Armored Core 4, Bullet Witch, and Shining Force EXA? Would it be possible to do it under 6 minutes? Yes, yes it is, but that might not necessarily be a good thing…

Fatal Inertia team facing troubles with Unreal Engine 3 for PS3 too!

Fatal Inertia Screenshot

We brought you news of Silicon Knights throwing a lawsuit at Epic Games not long ago. To summarize, they claim that Epic gave them faulty versions of the Unreal Engine 3, that it does not do what it is said to do, that it has problems working on the PS3, that Epic did not help them figure out how to use the Unreal Engine 3 and that Epic stole their lunch money.

Using Silicon Knights’ lawsuit as cover, Fatal Inertia developers Koei have gone public with the statement that they are having problems with the Unreal Engine 3 as well. Koei announced that the Unreal Engine 3 is not functioning well under the PS3’s highly-acclaimed hardware. The game is “not running well enough” to be released for the PS3 yet.

This means that Fatal Inertia for the PS3 has officially been delayed. Since they find it silly to hold up the Xbox 360 version because of troubles with the PS3, Koei has decided to release the Xbox 360 version without a delay.

Bully goes back for seconds on Wii and 360

Canis Canem Edit

Today Take Two entertainment announced that their critically praised game Bully, Canis Canem Edit(dog eat dog) in Europe, is getting the mulitplatform treatment. The game will be released on the Xbox 360 and Wii, presumably at the same time. While the specifics aren’t mentioned, Take Two says both will feature unique new content, whether this means each will have it’s own console specific features such as waggle controls and DLC for the 360 it’s definitely a great thing to see the games on more consoles.

Personally I’m quite excited. I rented Bully and beat it on my PS2, and just thought to myself how all of the side quests and such in the game could make for some awesome achievements on the 360.

Keep your eyes and ears open for Bully: Scholarship Edition’s release this coming winter.
