No Fox at San Diego Comic-Con 07

Aliens vs. Predator

In a surprising twist of events Fox has decided to pull-out of its scheduled presentation at Comic-Con 07 in San Diego on July 26-29. Fox previously stated that Aliens vs. Predator 2, Jumper, Babylon A.D., and Hitman were all going to be shown off.

Comic-Con is a huge event every year where geeks share their love of comics, anime, video games, and of course movies. With a predication of over 123,000 attendees this year Comic-Con has become the place for studios to showcase their upcoming science fiction offerings.

The studio’s vice president of national publicity, Sean Dudas, said on Wednesday that, “The material wasn’t ready and we only want to go out when we can put our best foot forward.”

YouTube Behind The Times

YouTube.com has released a new player that mixes YouTube videos together. This “custom player” allows you to customize the name of the player, color theme, and video display layout. The videos come straight from a YouTube user’s playlist, favorites list, or the user’s own uploaded videos.

Here’s our YouTube example:

Now first with the good: the way that the video thumbnails are displayed is fantastic! Glossy, iTunes-ness gorgeous!

Now for the this is crappy portion: no Full Screen view, background colors only? – why not pictures for more in-depth branded players, and there is no way to categorize the videos – they all get lumped together into one player.I’m being serious here in saying that YouTube sucks. It’s an old fashioned system that needs some major updates to catch up with newer video sites that have higher quality video, no site branding, and are skinless.

That’s why I submit to you the future of StuffWeLike.com’s player The Pipeline! Get ready for the future of the multimedia experience. This new version (seen below) is planned to release in roughly 3 weeks.

The Pipeline v2.0

Major props to SplashCast for creating a great technology that allows users to create their own shows while still being able to syndicate other users shows **cough cough search for The Pipeline** all in one player.

The Darkness is a next generation, first-person action game that features an immersive and gritty storyline written in collaboration with famed comic-book writer, Paul Jenkins (also of Civil War: Frontline). Set in the dark and seedy underbelly of New York City, players experience the role of mafia hitman Jackie Estacado, heir to “The Darkness,” an ancient power that awakens within him on his 21st birthday. Jackie must use traditional weapons as well as learn to command his terrible new powers to seek revenge on his own crime family. The Darkness is based on the popular comic of the same name published by Top Cow Publishing and created by Marc Silvestri and Paul Jenkins.

Testing, Test test 1, 2, 1, 2

If you’re a die-hard StuffWeLike.com fan, and we know that you all are, you may have first noticed that we’ve released a new design for the website. Secondly you may have noticed that the speed on the blog has been a little slow for some unknown reason. We’re trying a few things out and have enabled a fast php program, which hopefully will speed up the load times on the blog and throughout the site.

Please let us know if you notice any improvements or even sever downtimes. Remember to be vigilant.

What would you do with a 40 gigabits/sec fiber-optic connection?

Internet

While many internet users are stuck with connection speeds that are well under 1 gigabit, a 75 year-old Swedish woman named Sigbritt Lothberg is able to get 40 gigabits per second! To bad she only uses the internet for reading web-based newspapers.

At her connection rate she’d be able to download full-length movies in literally two seconds! Hafsteinn Jonsson and Lothberg’s son are the ones that built this fastest residential uplink in the world. They were able to connect two routers 1,240 miles apart without any transponders.

Please come to my house and give me that connection, please!

Fix My 360

Xbox 360 Ring of Fire

Thanks Microsoft for rushing out a great product! Regretfully over 30% of Xbox 360s are defective and sadly mine is one of them. I’ve had the machine for well over a year and I now receive the “RING OF FIRE!” Thankfully Microsoft did increase their Xbox 360 warranty to 3 years. They are also working on making XBox 360s have 65 nanometer process instead of the current 90. That means cooler and overall more efficient processors! Woopie…

After hearing so many stories about Microsoft having terrible costumer support, I can now blog about it from a hands-on experience! On Microsoft’s support website they say to email them and they will get back to you within 24 hours. It has now been 96 hours and I haven’t received any reply.

Because this is such a huge issue for gamers and will be for a long time, I’ll continue to post updates on the journey of getting my Xbox 360 fixed.
