After a crazy time post writers strike its been hard to find complete lists showing the status of high profile US shows expected to get renewed for the fall. While a number of shows like The CW’s Smallville and Supernatural have been renewed there are a number of big shows where no information is around at all. A few of the big ones with an unknown future are listed below.
Boston Legal
Dexter
Jericho
Shark
The Unit
Prison Break
Reaper
You can find a complete list of all the network’s returning shows and their status at http://reporter.blogs.com/pilotseason/renewed-shows.html
What this means for you is if a majority of these shows are not renewed then the new focus of the major networks, reality TV will have its future assured and that will make quality scripted television a rare event.

In what appears to be a healthy intermingling of the mainstream sports and gaming cultures, ESPN has struck a deal with Major League Gaming so that they can have shows on ESPN. Sounds pretty cool and the guys at MLG are ecstatic enough to release
this press release. This elevates MLG’s status to biggies like the MLB, the NBA, the NHL and what-not, because ESPN will be giving complete coverage to the MLG.
That means you’ll be seeing player interviews, the 2008 MLG Pro Circuit Competitions, streamed matches, scores, statistics and so on. We’re definitely not talking about an oddly-timed half-hour show talking about how gaming tournaments are so weird. We’re talking a full-fledged sports deal that puts the MLG actually into the major league.
Check out ESPN’s flashy new site for the newfound affiliation, where they’ve already got the show going, with fresh MLG news and Pro Circuit stuff. Those not in the know might also be interested in ESPN’s Video Games site, where they try to be real cool and pretend they are good at covering video games like other major sites we won’t mention here. Just kidding.
This event has a profound impact on gaming, perhaps the largest since Halo 3’s humongous sales. With nerdy gaming tournaments getting showtime on ESPN, you know that the mainstream-gaming gap is being filled slowly. And while some might be annoyed by that, the more optimistic among us will tell you that this can only mean more people play games, more people make games and hopefully, games become cheaper and better!
So much for Utopia.

Smurfs. Invented in 1958, these creatures have been one of pop culture’s more popular franchises. With their blue skin and classic song, they have conquered the world. And now, in Anno 2008, they will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their existence! One of the biggest highlights of this events is a movie deal that will cause Hollywood to topple over. We’re talking a computer-animated 3D movie here. The horror! Also expect an invasion of female characters (not literally, of course - this isn’t Xena). Hendrik Coysman justifies this in that The Smurfs have always adapted to the current era and theme, and since the 80s, you’ve had women in more positions of power and freedom. The Smurfs will now reflect that!
Other stuff you should expect during these demonic 50th anniversary celebrations: new comic adventures, statuettes, an exhibition at Brussels’ cartoon museum and a set of commemorative stamps.
Oh Gawd.
