Spore is patched to 1.01

Spore has now been patched and in addition to the usual bug fixes we have been treated to a number of odd new features. For example there are now “New Cheats” which allow for different display modes for your creatures and various other odd things. It’s hard to imagine in any modern game getting new cheats included with patches but we live in strange times. There are also a lot of graphical improvements and general tweaks included. The patch is 92.16MB (version 1.01) and can be found on all good download websites like Fileshack or Gamershell.

It doesn’t appear to be an essential patch at the moment so it might be best as classed as a “if you have a problem get it” type of download as while there are fixes included to sort out some crash bugs there are not many bonus features that the masses would want to try out. If it’s your thing however, take a look.

Stargate Worlds additional content plans.

The publisher for the Stargate television series MMO game Stargate Worlds has announced that it will be releasing expansion content for free to subscribers while time progresses. In a recent interview they said that they are already working on post-launch content like new worlds, creature and storylines. Plus more character orientated updates like new abilities, ways to explore the universe and armour sets (so no horse armour Oblivion style transaction).

They mentioned that those kinds of additional content would be called “seasons” but there would also be things like the inclusion of Atlantis or those characters as a possibilities but big updates like that would be sold in a retail box. The sales line is that the publisher wants players to get new content for continuing to play and not just patches. This however isn’t really news or anything shocking since every MMO going adds new material and has episode based content updates. City of Heroes is a good example of free story updates and World of Warcraft has enough sold in a box updates to make The Sims blush. The real news is the current estimated release date is still early 2009 with a beta expected before that date, most likely before the end of this year.

The game will be released on PC only so no console users allowed unlike early expectations of a 360-PC crossover title.

Valve fixes Arena stats bug

Another of Valve’s usual Team Fortress 2 auto updates has become active. While most of the little bug fixes are not really news worthy this version sorts out one issue and it’s a big one. It fixes a big that prevented accurate Arena mode user statistics from being uploaded.

If this means that user scores were not uploaded for future record and achievement unlockables then that is a serious issue worthy of note. Considering how many hours it takes or the fluke occurrences that happen to make an achievement and a weapon unlockable it could take months to regain what should already be yours.

It’s a good thing Valve run their own patching service via Steam as by normal means in almost any other game but MMO’s it could take months for enough glitch fixes to come around to make a standalone patch a worthwhile thing to publicise and update with on the companies end. For Team Fortress 2 users the next time you go onto Steam the download will begin automatically and take just a jiffy.
