We are original here at StuffWeLike. We don’t simply replicate articles found on other websites. That’s why… oh wait we do. But that’s not that point. This post is our Best of 2008. It’s not listing the best written articles on the website. It simply lists what I think are the most entertaining posts throughout each month. Be prepared to do something. One of the best social networking websites out there Facebook.com now allows for HD 720p video content to be uploaded and streamed to users. Facebook Video also now allows for videos to be embedded on other sites. The embedded videos will not be played back in HD format. In order to see those videos you have to be on the website.
From what it looks like, Facebook Video continues to be for the public and isn’t directly competing against YouTube.com. Facebook Video is for sharing favorite video moments with real friends while YouTube is for releasing videos to the world-wide web.
It is pretty amazing amoungst my friends how many more comment on my videos uploaded onto Facebook as opposed to my videos uploaded onto YouTube. It would be great if Facebook introduced a program like YouTube Partners where it allowed more serious content producers to generate revenue off of their videos, but for now that doesn’t seem like it’s the direction Facebook plans on taking its video service.
Here’s my first ever Facebook HD video!
Check out the picture below and see how the HD video looks on Facebook. There’s an option to view the video in regular quality. The video itself has the ‘HD’ written on the thumbnail and even ‘HD’ by its title.
This is how HD videos on Facebook look along with their listed features.
Overall I’m happy with Facebook going HD. It’s just as simple to upload videos and tag friends. If anything that is still what sets it apart from other online video services.
Let’s face it, gamers like us don’t run, we like a more casual approach to life so anything easy is great. To fit in with that there’s a great thing you can do with little effort to both possibly help yourself one day and help others now, it’s even fun! Grow a mustache. No, it’s not a joke. You know how people are sponsored when running marathons how about instead of running just getting a few people to sponsor you growing a mustache over November?
It’s not as crazy an idea as it sounds. All this month an initiative called Movember is going on in countries all over the world with the purpose of getting blokes like us to grow a mustache and earn some money for charity. For those in Ireland the money raised this time around will go to Action Prostate Cancer - an initiative of the Irish Cancer Society. To find out who your money would go to in the UK, US or anywhere else just check out the local charities concerned on the website listed below.
To Irish gamers, in addition to myself other Irish celebrities have also put forward their support to Movember including Cork Hurler (and testicular cancer survivor) Joe Deane, TV and journalist Joe O’Shea, radio DJ’s Tom Dunne and Sean Moncrief, and top Irish bands The Blizzards and Dirty Epics. Original Mo Bro, TV and radio presenter Marty Whelan has pledged to be a Mo Mentor giving Mo Bros tips on how to grow. Esteemed Minister Willie O’Dea TD is also giving his full support to the campaign. Mo Sistas can get involved too by lending support, raising awareness and helping to raise money and Mo Sistas, TV hottie Michelle Doherty and DJ Mo Kelly are encouraging men to sign up.
Why would you do it? Call it an insurance policy, the fact is, at least in Ireland men have a one in twelve chance of developing prostate cancer and the statistics are almost as bad all over the world. So why not take out some insurance in a fun way, help others now and make sure the situation is better should you ever face it.
To help out simply go to www.movember.com and show your a good bloke helping others with a cool mustache like Magnum P.I. Girls can help too and that info is included also on the website, don’t worry it doesn’t involve a mustache! Plus you can have some fun with the Movember Facebook page at http://apps.facebook.com/ccmovember/ I’m proud to be a spokesperson for Movember and all of us can help in our own way, but hurry as time is running out.
I love it when a company is proactive in being New Media friendly. Give users your content whenever and where ever is so pleasing.
TheWB.com is aiming for just that. Going public Aug 27, TheWB.com features older WB shows along with new original web series. Not only will this content be available on TheWB.com - it will also be on Dailymotion, Joost, Sling Media, TiVo and Veoh Networks! They already have a Facebook application that allows users to share The WB content.
Ladies and gentlemen, here we go the official death of AIM is here. For years millions have used AIM to chat with buddies, but now Facebook is entering the instant messaging market. TechCrunch did a screencast of the new web based service. We can only begin to imagine the possibilities that this new field will provide Facebook users. Facebook Chat will be made public within the next few weeks.
