In one of those really funny turns of events showing who’s boss Microsoft has stopped Halo makers Bungie from announcing a new Halo title at this months E3.

According to GameRush, Bungie had a full 60-second trailer ready to go and be shown at the Microsoft keynote address right at the end but was told at the last minute it’s not to be shown. Bungie revealing it’s new Halo title at E3 is one of the webs worst secrets, specially with the constant comments coming from various sources for the last month before the show.

The lack of new information however is a disappointment. Especially with the teasing of a trailer for the new title, but considering how Halo Wars had a trailer release and still is not around perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. Think of it this way, being desperate to see something is less likely to happen if you don’t know it exists. Even with the cool Halo Wars trailer the recent videos showing the game in action have hardly been incredible, looking like an extremely average PC RTS.

We will be sure to hear more about this soon, probably when Sony is just about to announce a new title and Microsoft needs an ace in the hole to distract from it. Much like Nvidia’s price drops during ATI card releases.

For those people who liked the fact that they had to pay for
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (aka demo) you will love this.
The guys at Joystiq ran into Gran Turismo creator Kazunori
Yamauchi at E3 this week. What he told them, while not official
is that GT5, the full version won’t be out to buy until 2010.
Given the huge delay between the release of Prologue in
Japan and then Europe it could mean 2011 for most territories.

So not only did you buy a demo for a game, those who shelled
out for Prologue. But when the full version Gran Turismo 5
comes out it will be based on a game engine and technology
several years old. Perhaps GT could be the new Duke Nuke with
a buy-to-play demo years before release of the final product.
It’s crazy enough after downloadable content to happen!

Perhaps the title of this article is misleading a little. The real question is why are extended trailers for movies, known as the sneak peaks only available for US users of the iTunes service? The most recent example of this is how iTunes has just had added a 7 minute, 100MB long trailer added for the upcoming movie Get Smart starring Anne Hathaway.

The catch is while you can watch it if you have a US iTunes account if you are anywhere else in the world or don’t have a US credit card you’re out of luck. Considering it’s a promotional piece to make people want to watch the movie and the movie comes out all over the world and not just the US it makes no sense to have regional barriers in place stopping other people watching the video when it could lead to additional revenue.

There are other items such as free tracks from bands to promote their upcoming albums which are also banned for non-US users and then there are free episodes of television shows from the major US networks also included which are blocked to outside users. The question remains why would you add a regional block to an advert for something which is to be sold in all countries. Perhaps this shows just how paranoid about legal restrictions the film companies are now becoming and the entertainment industry as a whole.

What does this mean for you? If you’re in the US not a thing. If you’re outside the US a whole load of problems and steam coming from your ears after being short changed.

In what can only be described as a desperate PR stunt Nvidia the graphics card company
have announced a new idea they have had. At an upcoming event in the United States
they are hoping to break a world record for constant LAN gaming. What this means is a
group of people will have to play continuously for 36 hours and they are only allowed
10 minute breaks for every 60 minutes of continuous gaming. They are offering prizes
of course like custom gear, a medal and graphics cards etc to those who participate
although only if the record is achieved. If not, tough.

Excercise

GamePeople explores Wii-Fit.

Video gaming that gets you to exercise is exactly what you needed to get in shape for summer! Now fast forward three weeks. The balance board has a home at the side of the TV and makes a tempting ebay item, unused and unwanted. What happened in those three weeks to make the savior of your health and fitness goals turn into handy plant stand?

To understand this we must start with the first principle of why you bought Wii-Fit. Most people are not too concerned at how much they weigh, don’t care what their BMI is, or know what BMI means. In my experience most people are driven by the promise of a trim, attractive body without all the flabby bits. Yes, exercise offers the chance to be young and sexy again, but there is a cost, you actually have to do it and over an extended period of time. When starting out with exercise you have a clear idea of how you want to look and your motivation and enthusiasm is at an all time high. However, the results are slow in coming, you cannot see any changes in the mirror and the scales haven’t budged, but and the effort and pain are real and immediate.

This has to be one of the most odd ideas for a signing on the planet.
Hideo Kojima, the man behind the Metal Gear game franchise with
MGS4 out soon will be in London. Only it won’t be for a quick tour
instead he will be at chain store HMV’s Oxford Street store in London
on (my birthday btw) June 2nd.
