For some reason my TiVo never recorded an season 2 episodes so I was delighted to finally be able to watch these episodes. After watching all of season 2 with its explosions, gunfights, CGI, deception, people dying left and right, skewed time traveling, and a T-1000 who seemed like it couldn’t even act its way out of a wet paper bag, I will have to say it left me wanting more.
I was really surprised when I saw how many episodes there were in the second season. The first season was really short (it only had nine episodes); the second season has 22 episodes!
The season started off strong…I mean really strong. It continued from where season 1 ended where Cameron (the T-888 Terminator that John Connor of the future sends to protect young John Connor and his mother, Sarah) is caught in an explosion when she starts the car. But it proceeded to go downhill from there. This season seemed like it was filled with pointless episodes such as an episode where Cameron searches a library all night long to find a Terminator lost in time…for no reason at all; or an episode where the entire story revolves around a UFO. Many of these episodes brought the fast paced flow of the series to a turtle’s crawl.
But the real kicker is the ending. I’m not going to reveal to you the ending but let’s just say that it made Terminator 3 and Terminator: Salvation obsolete. The point is the ending to the series seemed like it completely skewed the timeline of the movies.
Not all the episodes were bad though. There were some really good episodes, like the one about Cameron’s past (or “future” depending on how you look at it…), and the second to last episode just to name a couple. The season had its moments; I just felt that it lacked a lot of them.
But the box set isn’t all that bad. It has great special features like episode commentaries, behind the scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, storyboard-to-film comparisons, rehearsal tapes, and a hysterical gag-reel. There are enough features that’ll keep you busy for quite some time.
All in all, I suggest people watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles, both season one and two. It’s a good series that I think is worth watching, but I highly suggest you rent it first before buying as I know it will appeal to certain audiences.
