In what can only be described as a desperate PR stunt Nvidia the graphics card company
have announced a new idea they have had. At an upcoming event in the United States
they are hoping to break a world record for constant LAN gaming. What this means is a
group of people will have to play continuously for 36 hours and they are only allowed
10 minute breaks for every 60 minutes of continuous gaming. They are offering prizes
of course like custom gear, a medal and graphics cards etc to those who participate
although only if the record is achieved. If not, tough.
On a health side 36 hours constant gaming without real sleep is insane. For those who say
you can sleep for 10 minutes you have the whole REM sleep issue meaning it’s worthless
anyway. Then there is the game side of it that after a certain amount of time you become
rubbish at games. For most people playing a PC FPS playing for more than 4 hours or so
the accuracy of the player decreases and you become worse than a n00b on their first try.
Without sounding cold perhaps those who are similar to those in Asia that died because of
playing a MMORPG for a week could be good at this but to say it’s a bad idea is an understatement.
