Anybody who has lived and played video games before 2000 will have heard of Interplay, and with good reason - they were the makers of some of some of the most awesome games in video game history, with Fallout, the Descent games, the MDK games and many more cool titles.
However, encountering financial troubles, Interplay crashed into an unknown abyss, never to be seen again. Last December, Interplay announces their return - which they will finance from the money they got by selling the Fallout IP to Bethesda.
Interplay has released details now, and their plans appear ambitious enough to have them at the forefront of the industry again! Interplay will be working on a Fallout MMO (that’s right), sequels to Descent, Earthworm Jim, Dark Alliance and MDK!
For a bit more, hit the jump!
Herve Caen, CEO of Interplay was quoted as saying:
“2007 set the foundation for our growth strategy. Going forward, we have the vision, unique intellectual property, and low debt and operational costs to help us pursue financing for our various projects.
“Our new Website will streamline our ability to communicate development progress with the public, share brand information with the fans and support our customers.”
Interplay definitely knows how money (or rather, lack thereof) can ruin your day - Interplay, after its acquisition in Titus in 2002 went down. In 2004, Interplay was evicted for not paying their rent, and was decimated by the Californian government for not paying workers. Bad.
Regardless, Interplay may not be what it was before Titus took over, but we wish it the best of luck and most importantly, to make really kick-arse games.
Fallout 3 and a Fallout MMO? This is madness!
