Jane the Virgin is a colorful and engaging series about a young woman who inadvertently becomes pregnant after a mix-up during a routine trip to the gynecologist. Everyone is stunned, especially her grandmother who lectured her incessantly from an early age about the importance of Jane remaining a virgin (which Jane has been all of her life). Will her family, boyfriend, and others accept this newfound turn of events?
With a solid cast of eccentric and hilarious characters, Jane the Virgin hits the ground running and keeps you wanting more episode after episode. My favorite character is Rogelio De La Vega (Jaime Camil) who for me is one the funniest on the show.
Of course, the highlight of the series is Gina Rodriguez as Jane who delivers a solid and empathetic performance with each scene. It’s no wonder Gina won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role on the series!
Interlaced with elements of magical realism, Jane the Virgin delivers compelling storylines that touch on a wide variety of topics including faith, trust, and following your dreams. It’s a fun series with plenty of laughs and lots of heart.
