iZombie: The Complete First Season – DVD Review

zombie

Zombies are everywhere these days. Whether on cable, at the movies, or in theme parks, zombies have become as commonplace as superheroes. So when I heard the premise of the CW’s iZombie, I was immediately intrigued. It wasn’t the traditional concept one thinks of when it comes to zombie-based fare. In fact, it was 180-degress different. And that makes it all the more interesting to me.

Instead of a group of survivors teaming up to battle a massive hoard or flesh-eaters, iZombie has a zombie as the main character. Well, she’s a half-living/half-undead main character, which makes her even more interesting. After a party is attacked by zombies, medical resident Olivia Moore (Rose McIver) awakes in a body bag, large scratches on her arm. But did she really survive the attack? There’s something different about her, but who can she tell, who can she trust with her newfound discovery that she is no longer just merely human?

Leaving her medical job for a job in a morgue (to the confusion of family, friends, and her ex-boyfriend), Olivia soon discovers that her need to eat brains has given her the ability to do something more: she can see into the pasts of the bodies she helps with in the morgue. She soon realizes that she can use her skills to help solve cases and assist the police in solving murders.

It’s a crazy premise, but it’s a really fun and series that sucks you in and leaves you wanting more (episodes, not brains). iZombie is a great twist on the detective genre as well, giving us the traditional crime-of-the-week but with an undead twist.

The DVD includes the iZombie Comic-Con Panel from 2014 and Deleted Scenes.

For fans of zombies who are looking for something a little different, I highly recommend iZombie.
