DVD Review: The Simpsons – The Complete Fifteenth Season

The Simpsons: The Complete Fifteenth Season

This is a tough show to review. I mean, come on. It’s The Simpsons. A cultural and television icon for almost a quarter century! If you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s and you’ve never seen an episode or heard of the series I sure hope you’re Amish (and if you are, you’re more than likely not reading this anyway)!

Why is the show so hard to review? Mainly because of what it is: the penultimate animated comedy series. It’s one of the shows that put FOX on the map over two decades ago along with Married…with Children.

Even today, The Simpsons is the cornerstone of FOX’s Sunday night Animation Domination where the series that follow it – Family Guy, American Dad!, The Cleveland Show – would not exist were it not for the longevity and status of Matt Groening’s creation.

Here we are looking at Season 15, and when you realize that this is close to being the half-way point for the series (if it runs for thirty seasons, which it very well may do), that’s a pretty big milestone to wrap your mind around.

Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie and the citizens of Springfield have brought us laughs through satire, wit, and absurdity for so long that they have become like family. You know when you sit down to watch The Simpsons you are in good company, no matter if it’s the second or twenty-second season.

Season 15 delivers plenty of great episodes that touch on the topical, the political, and the social aspects of our lives. Along with plenty of special guest voices, The Simpsons: The Complete Fifteenth Season just goes to prove that this is one animated series that will forever be a part of American culture.

Special features for this season include:

All Aboard with Matt

An intro to the 15th season by series creator Matt Groening.

The Unusual Ones

A look at the unique art styles utilized on the series up through season 15.

Living in the Moment

Multi-Angle Animation Showcase

See select scenes in either their storyboard or animatic form.

Other Special Features include Audio Commentary on all 22 episodes, two Sketch Galleries, and tons of Deleted Scenes!

If you’re a fan of The Simpsons you probably already own this. If you don’t, or have never seen the show, I highly recommend you run out and get The Simpsons: The Complete Fifteenth Season on DVD! Of course, if you’ve never seen the show, check out seasons one through fourteen, and then check this one out.
